Lab 20: Explore LAN Configurations Name: Tam Doan Purpose The purpose of this lab is to help you understand the location and types of configuration settings used with Local Area Networks (LANs). Equipment You will need a Windows system with a connection to a network (e.g., your school's network, your home network, or the internet). Microsoft offers configuration wizards to assist you in setting up your network with basic defaults. While this is usually sufficient for a home network, business environments might require more specific configurations or special settings. Every computer connected to a LAN should have: A Network Interface Card (NIC) with the appropriate drivers installed Client software Protocols Services (such as file and/or printer sharing) A unique computer name A workgroup\domain name If networked computers are functioning properly, all these components should be set up and working. Procedure 1. NIC Drivers: Open the Device Manager. Expand the 'Network Adapters' section. Right-click on your network card, select 'Properties', and then click on the 'Driver' tab. What does the 'Driver' tab tell you about your NIC drivers?
