Why is it important for ELL teachers to be thoughtful about the elements of language within ELL instruction?
There are five components used by ELL teachers within ELL instruction. The five elements are phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency and comprehension strategies. Teachers should be thoughtful for many reasons within ELL instruction. “Some phonemes may not be present in ELLs native language and therefore, may be difficult for a student to pronounce and distinguish auditorily, as well as to place into a meaningful context” (Antunez, N.D). Some students may not be able to categorize all the different phonemes in their
first language. These types of small things that we may not notice may be a big deal for a student. Depending on a student’s native written language, they may need to be taught the different print functions. Reading fluency is vital in the English first language community. “The Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement states that ELLs should learn to read
initially in their first language. If this is not possible, students need to see and hear hundreds of books over a school year for fluency to be modeled to them” (Antunez, N.D). All in all, ELL teachers should be thoughtful because there may be several deficits that may be minor to us, but drastic to some that are ELL. Antunez, Beth. N.D. REPLY TO DISCUSSION
There are many forms of communication. Language is known as the primary form. “Language Acquisition is the manner of learning a language by immersion. It provides the student with practical knowledge of the
language. Whereas, language learning focuses on providing theoretical knowledge of a language”(Difference Between, 2021). Language acquisition is something that is picked up by a child without thought or study when they are young. This is how children learn to communicate. It starts with mimicking. Despite the study of language, a child will be able to express themselves clearly by the time they are school aged. This style of language does not follow any grammatical rules, it is very informal and
is based on practical knowledge. Language learning is structured such as learning a different language. When learning a different language you learn the structure, grammar and vocabulary of the language. The process is slow as it takes time to learn a different language. Difference Between. 2021. SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT
Assessment Description
The most effective strategies, approaches, and methods for teaching ELLs are supported by language acquisition theories. English language acquisition can be promoted by understanding
language as an interconnected system and by integrating the discourse and rhetorical structures of ELLs within instruction.
For this assignment, you will devise a language game or communication activity that is informed
by language acquisition theory and integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing for a grade level within grades K-12.
For your chosen grade level, select a standard from the Arizona English Language Arts (ELA) and a corresponding standard from the Arizona English Language Proficiency (ELP) to be included within this game or activity. Create at least one learning objective for your game or activity that is aligned with your chosen ELA and ELP standards.
Within a 500-750 word submission, include the following:
1.
The ELA and ELP standards as well as the learning objective(s) to be addressed within your game or activity
2.
A complete explanation of the game or activity and how it would be carried out in an educational setting
3.
A list of the materials needed for your game or activity
4.
A brief description of at least one language acquisition theory and how it informed the design of your game or activity
5.
A brief definition of phonetics, phonology, morphology, lexicon, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics. Additionally, include a description of how each of these elements relate to the verbal and written exercises within your game or activity.
Support your submission with at least three scholarly resources.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the

Dr. Cox, I have seen and utilized the majority of the tricks that are laid out in the article. One of my favorite tricks is the right timing for repetition. Repetition is considered one of the oldest methods used to teach. It is important to language development and in learning a second language. The technique that I use with my ESL students is the "I do, we do, you do" technique to help with repetition. I have found that this helps to engage the student to learn the material being taught and helps the student retain the information along with TPR. Repetition can be a useful tool in the
