Case study: Planning at High Performance Pumps Introduction High Performance Pumps is a small, successful manufacturing organization that specializes in manufacturing a range of pumps. This success is due to the performance, quality and reliability of the product and the excellent back-up service. The pumps range in size from 075 mm to larger pumps. The smaller pumps are manufactured in batches of 100 and the large specials in batches of five. However, regardless of size, all pumps use the same manufacturing processes. The process skills involved in the camshaft manufacture are highly developed and considered cost-effective compared with competitors. Research Case Scenario
28 year old, Friendly Frank, found himself unemployed and looking for work after he was fired from First National Bank. Frank was well liked and always had received positive reviews during his five year career at the bank. He had joined the organization right after graduating college and had been promoted and done well during his time there. Frank was fired for breaking a company rule regarding using social media accounts while at work. Frank would occasionally log into his Facebook social media account during work hours on his work computer which violated company rules. This ultimately led to his losing his job as it was against First National Bank policies for employees to engage in personal activities online for non-work related activities during the workday. Frank lamented his firing stating that it was a complete overreaction, his activities were innocent, occasional, and brief. Not any different than anyone…

He has a firm belief that formal performance evaluations (with developed criteria, ratings, formal discussions etc.) are an absolute waste of time and should never be done. Instead, he thinks that he is well familiar with each employeeâs work and achievements, and he can easily tell âwhat they are worthâ by interacting with them and observing their performance on a daily basis. As a result, the manager periodically stops at employeesâ desks, talks to them, asks about their progress on projects and discusses other work-related issues. Employees have a lot of daily feedback and seem to like it. However, no written performance appraisal forms are ever filled in. When it comes to pay raises and promotion, the manager makes his decisions and announces them…
