It requires you to demonstrate critical thinking abilities to provide well-informed and ethically sound responses. Your analysis should reflect an understanding of the ethical implications associated with intellectual property, as well as your ability to navigate and apply ethical principles within the context of the IT industry. Task requirements You need to read the given case studies carefully and answer the following questions based on the ethical and IP considerations involved. Provide well-reasoned and thoughtful responses, supported by relevant arguments and examples. You need to submit a report that includes your responses to the questions. Ethical Considerations in Data Sharing for Targeted Advertising Case Study:
You work as a software developer for a company that designs and builds computer games using advanced technologies such as Kinect, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality. The company collects various data about its gamers, including their demographics, playing times, the games they play, and even their background conversations. The primary objective of collecting this data is to enhance customer experience by better targeting new games, game extensions, and real-time in-game purchases to game clients. However, the company has recently discovered a new revenue stream by selling some of the data to third-party companies for targeted advertising to gamers. Customers agree to the data capture usage when they purchase the game, but the new revenue stream raises ethical concerns. As a software developer, you are tasked with developing software to share gamer data with these third-party companies. Questions: 1.
What are the ethical considerations in this scenario? 2.
What values are at stake for the different parties involved? 3.
What are the possible consequences of the actions taken by the individuals involved? 4.
Does the ACS (Australian Computer Society) Codes of Ethics and Professional offer any guidance or recommendations on the ethical issues raised in the scenario? 5.
What could have been done differently to avoid ethical violations? Propose alternative approaches or actions that could have been taken to ensure ethical practices in data collection and sharing and protect gamer privacy.
