Purpose:
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to announce the availability of a retrofit kit to correct the
fuel migration problem of the dual fuel Mars engines.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Mars dual fuel units with standard combustion system in the field have been experiencing problems
associated with migration of liquid fuel into the gas fuel manifold during the operation on liquid
fuel. The liquid fuel, which migrates into the gas fuel manifold cokes up the injectors and can cause
problems with subsequent gas fuel operation. Some of the injector fuel lines were found to have
excessively elevated temperatures at the sites with the fuel migration problem, which is caused by
recirculation of combustor air between injectors with slightly different pressure levels (cross flow).
A PCD forward purge system has been developed for the Mars dual fuel standard engines. This
system prevents the entrapment of liquid fuel into the gas passageways of the dual fuel injectors
and the resulting plugging of these gas passageways with coke and carbon. A positive flow of PCD
air through the gas fuel manifold and the gas passageways of the injectors prevents the entrance
of liquid fuel into the gas passageways. This positive flow of PCD is achieved by the use of a
connecting line between PCD and the gas fuel manifold through two automated shutoff valves. The

pressure drop across the combustor liner provides the pressure differential to achieve the airflow.
Without this purging air flow, the liquid fuel can be entrapped in the gas passageways by “cross
flow” due to the small pressure differences around the combustor.
ACTION REQUIRED:
Gas fuel purge kits have been developed for field installation on the dual fuel packages to correct
the problem. Contact your local Solar Field Service office for assistance in ordering the appropriate
Retrofit Kit and to schedule its installation. The kit will be provided free of charge.

A Team of Engineers asked for an internal combustion engine to use it in a designed car. Your role is to describe the operation sequence of different types of available engines, explain their mechanical efficiency, and deliver a detailed technical report to show your approach in solving and discussing the following tasks and issues.
You must follow the following steps to help the team:
STEP 1
Describe the operational sequence of four-stroke spark ignition and four-stroke compression ignition engines with the aid of sketches by constructing simple sketch representing the operation and plotting the P-V diagrams for each process during the cycle to show the following:
The input and output heat and net output work
The expansion and compression strokes
The air-fuel mixture intake and exhaust gasses
The spark plug when it is in the active mode
The complete cycle of ideal Otto and Diesel cycles that shows the input and output heat and net output work.
STEP 2
