Individual Project Deliverable 2 Joshua Ellis Problem Context I spend most of my time on a computer for school and personal use. I found that when I am using a mouse for a prolonged period of time there is a annoying pain in my wrist. This is most common when playing video games. Finding a solution to negate this problem is what I set out to do in this project deliverable. Customers who would find this to be a helpful solution can include office/home workers, students, software developers/engineers, and gamers. Particularly anyone who is often using a desktop computer or laptop with a mouse. I work at Starbucks and decided to talk to some customers who come in to do work or school work. In talking to them I found that many of them bring a wireless mouse. Helping me narrow down my target design further. Problem Statement For computer users everywhere wrist pain can cause serious lasting issues. We are developing a solution to eliminate this problem without sacrificing your in-game performance. Potential Solutions Design A One possible solution to making an ergonomic mouse is the design. I drew up some models and the best design for eliminating wrist pain that I came up with was to raise the back of the mouse for a more comfortable holding position.
Design B Another solution that I came up with was creating a vertical mouse of sorts. This would lean away from conventional mouse designs. I have seen these before and the only problem I would have with it is that it won’t be preferable for gaming. Although for academic and work-related tasks it may be a viable option. Design C Adding a modular weighting system was a personal preference. I like for my mouse to be a bit heavier so that it can easily glide across my mouse pad with minimal effort. To achieve this I was thinking of adding 0.3 once weights to the bottom of the mouse which can be removed or added anytime by snapping off the bottom plate.
