Module 6 Tic Tac Toe Instructional Strategies/Tools There have been MANY teaching strategies used throughout this course, such as KWL charts, concept maps, wait time, Think-Pair-Share, pre and posttests, 3.2.1, connect and reflect, and Voki just to name a few. Select 3 strategies and show how you might use each strategy in your future classroom. Separate by paragraph and strategy title but keep all 3 responses in the same Word document. Differentiated Learning Differentiated instruction is one strategy that I think is a great choice for teachers to use when in the classroom. This approach involves the teacher acknowledging that all students are not the same and providing options, and adapting to certain styles that help their individual needs to provide the best learning experience to every student. In my future classroom, I would probably apply this strategy by giving students many opportunities and choices to help them develop their creativity and motivation in creating art pieces. Also, varying the content, environment, process, and product can allow me to accommodate their learning style, develop risk-taking, support the path they take, and be responsible for their work. All these I see would be something used in my classroom as with art, people have different ways of completing the process and what they may utilize to do so. Especially thinking about how young my students will be, all of them are not going to have the same learning style or go in the same direction to achieve a goal. Taking advantage of implicit biases Taking advantage of implicit biases when in the classroom is not a strategy, I would think could be useful; however, after being shown why, I think it could be a good strategy. In the future, I believe identifying any I may have and taking advantage of them can help with lowering the probability of them occurring, such as common ones about girls being quieter than boys in the classroom. Implicit biases can happen unintentionally, as everyone has them, and it is normal to have some. When it comes to being in the classroom, taking advantage of them to prevent situations where they may occur is helpful, even if you believe that you do not have any that could cause a problem. Student Choice I believe student choice is a way that all teachers should consider due to how effective it is when used in the classroom. I believe it can help with the development of many skills, such as communication with peers and their confidence in the classroom. When applying this in the future, I think including options and opportunities in suggesting ideas on what they may want to
learn and how they would go about completing it can encourage them to communicate and engage with their peers. Options would vary from it being an individual, duo, or group task to allow them to have the choice to decide what they want to do and encourage them to collaborate while also coming up with their ideas in art as there is a wide variety of methods to utilize. I love this strategy, and it is one I will recommend for others to try if they ever ask about teaching strategies I follow and use.
