Team: Orange October 4, 2023 Steel Framing Daily Report #4 Work Schedule: Begin: 9:00 am Ended: 11:30 am General Description of Work: - Meeting with Professor Lacona and Womack from 9:00 am to 9:15 am - Discussed this week’s JHA with Professor Womack - All PPE was put on and the team headed to the site - Our Foreman for the week (Cager) discussed his JHA and had everyone sign in agreement of the risks for the day - Moved onto discussing our schedule for the day given to us by our Super, Dylan - Looked over the layout plan section ( Sheet C1 W ) to reference our steel frame - Continued to complete our steel frame by first double-checking measurements - Talked to our 300 L team about some confusion over the exact measurements of the two- wall steel frame and then proceeded to our steel frame - Put in our final studs and used self-tappers to drill them into place, Aaron and Cager on one wall, Nathan and Evan on the other - Laid out a mock of our walls on the concrete footer ( Figure 1 ) - Checked clearance of both walls and noticed a discrepancy in our fitting, our wall with the window was measured incorrectly and was ¼ inch too long ( Figure 2 ) - Took the incorrect wall down and disassembled, cut the top and bottom track to fit correctly, and then reassembled - Put the wall back up and installed all of our washers and nuts on the anchor bolts for both walls - Professor Womack came over to talk to our team and explained that our concrete footer was not level just like our connecting team, team Yellow ( Figure 3, Figure 4 ) - Professor Womack explained we had to fix the level and Aaron came up with the idea to extend some of our studs to compensate for the level, Team Yellow decided to use concrete to fix this, with our idea we would not have to mix, and wait for our concrete to dry - Professor Womack agreed with the fix and allowed us to continue to work - The team then took down the walls again, and measured the exact length needed to compensate for the new level, removing the outside studs to cut to a new length ( Figure 5, Figure 6 )
Team: Orange October 4, 2023 Steel Framing - After talking to our superintendent (Dylan) he checked our budget and worked in for us to buy new studs to cut - Aaron and Cager measured twice and cut the new length of our studs ( Figure 7 ) - Nathan and Evan then used self tappers to install the new studs, the team then checked the level and concluded that we fixed the issue ( Figure 8 ) - The walls were then set into place and fixed down using the nuts and washers - The walls were then temporarily connected together using a scrap stud and self-tapper to make sure it would safely stay in place till next lab - The team cleaned up our pallet and put all tools away - Discussed the schedule for next week and packed up Safety: - Foreman Cager covered the JHA, who discussed the hazards of working with steel framing such as cuts, scrapes, ladder use, power tools, etc. - Proper PPE was worn by all team members at all times and no safety violations were reported Important Conversations: - Discussed dimensions for steel stud frames as well as placement, double double-checked with our 300L team - Discussed with Professor Womack the discrepancy with our unlevel concrete and how to fix the issue, having to decide what the best fix would be - Discussed having to buy more studs and adjust the budget with our superintendent Dylan Issues and Concerns: - Our window wall was too long and did not have enough clearance originally, had to adjust the length for proper fitment - Concrete footing was not evenly leveled, had to adjust the length of our studs to compensate Visitors: - Professor Womack, Owner - Ryan Bieberdorf, Superintendent - Dylan Lutes, Superintendent - Brian Olthoff, Superintendent
