2 Artiaga Oral health is the gateway to maintaining strong general health . Dental decay such as cavities are one of the chronic diseases among children . According to the national institute of health, poverty has been consistently linked with poor health and increased risk for psychological disorders in children . Due to this, children living in low-income areas are more likely to have unmet needs . A study done by The J . Public Health Management Practice supports this claim . Their study was to assess the utilization of preventative oral health care in primary care practices and evaluate the variation in patient characteristics and geographic disparities . Their results showed greater risk of early childhood caries in those in rural non- fluoridated water communities and in uninsured low-income patients . The conclusion was that there are disadvantages and higher vulnerability in certain populations because there of a difference in preventative measures in both areas . However, after reviewing a countless number of studies revolving on childhood caries there was no study looking at the direct impact of cavities among children in low-income areas among the ages of 3-4 years old . I would like to conduct with a purpose to view the difference of dental health in families with higher income than in those with lower income . Although money is a factor what else is factoring into poor oral health . Is it the lack of knowledge or different foods being eaten? To find this information out, the question of “How does income affect cavities in children? “Should be investigated .
3 Artiaga This study would be especially important because it will show if there is a drastic difference between dental coverage available in low- and high-income populations . The goal of this study will to be hopefully gain results that will be impactful on healthcare . This study will allow for healthcare workers to focus on what is lacking in different areas to improve their understanding of needs for their patient . The hope is that this study will open the eyes of those in charge of healthcare policies to create equal access by producing more inclusive access to care . Unlike other studies focusing on one area among a wide population this one will begin by researching different offices all over the country . To represent the U . S population four offices each from the North, Western, Sothern and Eastern parts of the U . S will be used for this study . A team will first be put together to quickly research offices and contact them in regard of the study . For offices that are interested in joining, interviewers will be sent out to determine which offices truly meets the criteria for this study . The criteria attempting to be met is an office that accepts both state and private insurance, pediatric office only because the study calls for doctors and hygienist who are specialized in pediatrics . As well as an office that is in a common ground area meaning it is placed between an area between low and high income for accessible access for different types of people . Each office much show an overall demographic of all current patients in that office . Lastly the information will be given to those conducting data and from there they will determine which offices are best to use .
