Telehealth is not a new technology. It has been around for years. Telehealth use has been
astronomical since the pandemic hit in 2019. It increases by more than 4000 percent in March
2020 over the previous year. By some measures (Fair Health, 2020). However, before the
pandemic you rarely heard about people using telehealth technology because of the restriction
Medicare and Medicaid had on reimbursement for fee for service on telehealth. Since the
pandemic the government, Medicare and Medicaid have waived those restrictions on the
reimbursement and made telehealth more accessible for people to use. (Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services, 2021; Public Law 116-136, 2020). According to (Uscher-Pines and Fisher
2021) Now that in-person care has begun to resume. Payers and our government will have to
decide which policy waivers should remain in place.
