Process Philosophy
Process philosophy is the belief that reality is continuously changing. It emphasizes a progressive knowledge that leads a perfect society, which was opposite from the absolute view of the Biblical Christian view. It was identified in the 1800s after the failure of the Romanticism-
Transcendentalism. Process philosophy held four presuppositions. The first being relativism, which basically states everything is changing. “Nothing is fixed. There is not truth in any fixed sense.” (Martin 2006) The second is known as environmentalism, which is the belief that the constant changing of the environment was responsible for the creation of man. The third is known as progressivism, this is known as “the faith that movement of flow of that which exists is
progressive.” (Martin, 2006) The final presupposition is developmentalism, which is the view that in order understand the where and whys of our life, we have to trace our steps backwards.
Process Philosophy vs. Family and Marriage
The bible provides, “
Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.” (
Leviticus 18:22
) It also provides that a marriage is between a man and woman. However, process philosophy has had a significant aspect on marriage and family over the years. Majority of the world, including most state governments, have condoned same-sex marriages and same-sex adoptions. This allows for people of the same sex to be united in holy matrimony, and for those couples to adopt children as they can not have their own, on their own. Some states still do not allow or recognize couples of the same-sex, and they also don’t allow for
those couples to participate in adoptions. process philosophy vs. civil rights.
Process philosophy has also greatly impacted the civil rights movement in America. In our reading, it states “The framers of the U.S. Constitution were not interested in civil rights, that

is, rights granted by government.” (Martin, 2006) This has greatly changed as the government has created new laws. As stated previously, it has impacted the civil rights for the same-sex marriage community. It has also shed light on the transgender world, and newly, the “furries” world. Activists have been greatly influenced in their fights for equality and justice. In my surrounding communities, school districts have decided that some students may identify as animals, majority of those being cats. Some schools have went as far as accommodating these students with a litter box.
