They attempted to fine and imprison Republican newspaper editors if any of the writing, speaking, or publishing was false, scandalous or malicious 3. What group of people did the Alien Act affect? Recent immigrants 4. Why do you think the Federalist controlled Congress and Federalist President John Adams enacted the Alien & Sedition Acts? To protect and define the fledgling nations. 5. What group of American people was the Adams Administration concerned about? New immigrants and Republican newspaper editors 6. Do you think anything in the Alien & Sedition Acts conflicts with the 1st Amendment to the Constitution? Explain. I think the Alien act conflicts with the 1st Amendment because they are judging the new immigrants as bad, mischievous people. It takes away everything that the 1st Amendment protects.
