Anterior cingulate cortex Q. 2 The same part of the brain is activated by both physical pain and social pain. True /False Q. 3 When children feel ostracized and left out, they are not able to learn as well. True /False Q. 4 Name three poor mental health outcomes associated with rejection. Insecure, attention seeking, jealous Q. 5 Research from across the world indicates that there is no other single influence that has as much impact on development as the experience of being cared for or not by important others. True /False Q.6 Human beings are hard-wired to get connections from the people they care about most. Q. 7. What does the Cyberball computer game assess? How we react to being rejected/ left out Q. 8 How does participating in the Cyberball game affect participant’s self-esteem, self-control, and sense of belonging? It lowers Q. 9 Can you recall a real-life Cyberball scenario in your own personal history? How did you feel? How long did the feeling last? I had been playing on the jungle gym with my friends and playing hide and go seek, and when I was counting they all ran off without me. I felt sad and ignored, I didn’t stay friends with them and ended up joining another group and never spoke to them again. Q. 10 The brain activation patterns of subjects from the Social Rejection study and the Physical Pain study were ____________ ( Very similar / Very different) Q. 11 How do participants in the Cyberball study treat other participants who rejected them during the experiment? They were rude or upset and they wanted to ignore them/ leave them out instead or confront them Q. 12 Rejected people act aggressively not only to those who rejected them, but also innocent bystanders. True /False Q. 13 REJECT covers the physiological response to social rejection felt by everyone from kindergarten students to prisoners in a maximum security prison. Do you think classroom educators should be trained in limiting the social pain of their students? Should our prison system also attempt to limit social pain? Might reducing social pain increase safety? Yes, I think if educators were educated in preventing social pains then the children would not only enjoy school more but we would have fewer children rejected by their peers. This may lead to less bullying and eventually, it being escalated to death by self or others.
Q. 14 Infants seek out food and water more readily than maintaining contact with their caregivers True/ False Q. 15. What are evolutionary reasons for the overlap between social and physical pain systems? Our social attachment system keeps us connected to others so when it was attached to the physical pain system through evolution, it made it so we would be more likely to stay with our social group. Q. 16 Imagine that the "you can't say you can't play" rule was an established and enforced principle on your campus. What would that mean for your campus culture? Think about specific examples. I think if this rule was implemented on my campus it would of been a little different, as I went to a school where inclusivity was a huge part of campus life, if this rule was implemented i think there would be less cliques and more acceptance between students in general. As every school is covered in social groups, i think if this rule existed, it would be easier for individuals to accept each other more and cliques would be null. Q.17 : Suggest a policy, activity or program that you think could promote a sense of belonging on campus for all students, faculty and staff at your school. Keep in mind these can be large or small changes to campus life. How would they work? What would make them effective? Organizations that want to involve new people, particularly younger children who are newer to the school, can make it simpler to integrate into a strange and intimidating setting. The best strategy to foster social interaction among children would be to create chat rooms. The prospect of kids meeting other kids without the social pressures of meeting new people in person might be greatly increased by creating a club or organization where each chat room is watched over and actively engaged. It may be as simple as searching for study partners or assistance with shared hobbies like sports or games. By entering the campus name of your school and logging in with your school credentials, anyone can join our chat room for free and be identified if bullying does take place.
