(Not required for every line; minimum of four comments.) CO: Hi there um Welcome to our second session umm How you’ve been doing today? FEX CL: I’m doing alright. CO: Alright…um so to recap from last week. We’ve talked about um how weight loss um and the process of losing weight uh was something that affects you and especially going to the doctors and how the doctor would talk to you um AB TVP I was recapping the last session and I made it to be like it was last week. So, when I mentioned last week it was about the scenario.
Techniques of Counseling Week 8 Video Transcription Template you didn’t feel comfortable um with the words or how they were framing *Hand motions detected*it. Am I correct on that? *Nods in response yes* CL: Yeah, yes are CO: So, uh tell me what Uh how has it been since the last time we talked whats whats new? TVP CL: Um well, you know the same thing about going to the doctors you know just getting my results and being hesitant about visiting the doctor and just still feeling that you know that negatively um towards like going to the doctor’s just cause I’m afraid of them you know telling me you know the same thing like “oh you need to lose weight” um but it’s not even just that um it doesn’t feel like it’s coming from a place like of you know me wanting to be healthy it just feels like it’s coming from a place like your judging me um *Counselor nods* and it’s not only just uh with the doctor you know just being a person who is in a bigger body its just really difficult um because if feels like almost all the time anywhere you go or like people that you encounter. Uh You know they always just have an opinion about your body and or or you know just the other day at work you know um I’m a teacher so you know we don’t have too much time in- between like during the day cause we are with the kids all day but sometimes you know AB CREF
Techniques of Counseling Week 8 Video Transcription Template I’ll talk to some teachers during like the pick up of the children during lunch or during other P.E or something and um I don’t know we were just talking about like um you know just having a casual conversation and just suddenly came up like “oh you know I know somebody that lost a lot of weight and un you know they were bigger than you know just that condescending kind of tone and she was saying they’re bigger than you but she lost weight and you know at the end of the day she said it was for her kids. I am not telling you to lose any weight but you know I just think that you know that would be good for you. You that just makes me feel bad its just so inappropriate you know I didn’t ask for her opinion but it’s kind like of those awkward moments. You kind of have to you feel like you have to let it pass. And you know it just makes me sad that I have to like consistently deal with that over and over you know. CO: Sounds to me that uh uh what your coworkers are saying made you angry. ROF CL: Yeah, I mean it definitely makes me angry just because like I didn’t ask for their opinions and like it always seems like to come up as a topic and you know I don’t know how to set those proper boundaries without feeling like I’m being rude rude to them you know but I want to AB CREF
Techniques of Counseling Week 8 Video Transcription Template like respectful say like you know um I don’t know how to say it or I appreciate your concerns but you know I don’t need I don’t need your opinions you know but them I I don’t say things like that because you know its just an uncomfortable and rude position to be in. But I’m just really sick and tired of people giving me their opinions and you know not just coworkers but just in general like you know whether it be in the streets while I’m walking I can get looks from people or like you know or even going to a family reunion that happens to going to a family reunion and seeing people you haven’t seen in a long time and all that they bring up is oh wow *Counselor nods* you gain so much weight or you know I feel like kind of ashamed to like eat in front of them because I don’t want to be judged or fear of being judged constantly. CO: So, so what I’m hearing is that when even being around family members *Counselor uses hand motion* like at uh gathering that that feeling can be overwhelming. TVP CL: Yeah, definitely overwhelming and you know just I kind of sometimes don’t even want to go to parties because I am afraid that someone is going to give me those kinds of comments you know, or I always like I have to be one the defense you know like I kind of expecting for CREF
Techniques of Counseling Week 8 Video Transcription Template someone to say it to me or you know just thinking ok before I go to like a family party I’ll change my clothes multiple times cause I am like constantly thinking like omg someone is going to bring it up to me. Um you know again or you know they say it in different ways but hurtful it doesn’t matter how they say it and they kind of like to tow on it but they always seem to mention It like oh you should do it for your health uh for your children. Think about your so young you know you don’t want to spend your life like this when you get older um you know its just like it doesn’t feel good to just be at a party and everyone is just having a good time and just hav-have to be told things like that *Counselor nods* Its you know I don’t like it I’m over it. CO: Alright um so um just to clarify can you explain what you mean by uh not being able to enjoy yourself at the party uh CLR CL: Yeah, yeah so like what I mean is like you know when you go to a party like it was an easter party I just went to recently and my family like um has a really big celebration and we do it outside and my aunt she throws it as she kind of has a farm and so you know we were outside and stuff and you know we’ll like to be able to enjoy it meaning just go have a drink and you know
Techniques of Counseling Week 8 Video Transcription Template who just talk to my family be with my kids and not feel like uh you know if I drink or if I eat some cake or if I eat some of the food that someone is just going to tell me something you know so i like when I when I go to those parties I don’t want to eat in front of anybody just because many times when I was younger uh I remember people telling me omg watch your mouth or are you going to finish that or why are you eating that um or you know I think that's enough and I was just a kid at the time like I don't really understand so now as an older person I'm kind of just on edge or fearful to like eat around people because I'm scared that they're going like tell me something and I you know I'm entitled to eat food it's a normal thing but you know I just constantly feel like I have like to watch my back cause someone's going to tell me something I really just don’t cause sometimes want to hear it and I don’t want to snap cause sometimes you know I feel like I'm going to snap and I don’t to do that either you know. CO: Yup well I uh I’m glad that you're able to uh uh express and uh tell me how you feel I know that takes a lot of strength um just uh a just a little bit myself um I grew up with that same or similar um those similar words in the sense of weight loss and uh CONQ PSD TVP
