What challenges or puzzles have come up in your mind from the ideas and information presented? CONNECT EXTEND CHALLENGE By reading the course material, the information presented connected me to my own personal experiences. I grew up in fatherless household. Just by my personal experiences, it did effect my childhood now that I reminisce. Mainly in the emotional aspects of life. For example, even though my mom have me the reassurance that is needed, I was still unconfident and was seeking the wrong attention from boys because I wanted that love from the opposite sex. I grew up in a single parent household. My mom did the best she could to make sure that I was well taken care and that I was successful in my academics I knew that fathers played a major child life, but I would never have guessed how “major role” a father plays in a child’s life. For example, children who have an involved father tend to stay in their seats, wait patiently for their teachers, and maintain interest in their own work. Children are more likely to better behavior and less likely to act out. Involved fathers can increase a child’s intellectual developmental. Studies show that a father that reads to their child are more likely to much better in cognitive activities and also increase a child’s verbal language. Who knew that fathers are just as important as mothers? Some challenges that still would cross my mind is how do we encourage fathers to stay and be part of their child’s life. Based on the reading, Head Start has a program, but what else can the society to encourage fathers to be involved. The readings gave some reasons why fathers may not want to be involved, but based on the father’s situation, how can we help/encourage.
