SCRIPTURE TO DISCUSS
Ephesians 4:29
- Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is
good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Hello Jesse,
Hello Classmates,
What does Ephesians 4:29 mean to me?
Paul moves on to compare corrupting speech with motivating speech after contrasting thievery
and hard work (Ephesians 4:28). His goal in both instances is to demonstrate how Christians
must intentionally live differently than we did before we were saved. Corrupt discourse is linked
with those who do not know Christ, just as stealing is associated with unbelievers.
It's interesting to note that Paul makes a point of saying that we are in fact in charge of what we
say: "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths." This runs counter to the usual
justification of "I couldn't help saying it." We are responsible for the language we use, says the
Bible (Matthew 12:36). Medical diseases that impair language control affect a very small
percentage of the population. And even these individuals should be expected to exert all
available control. Christians do have control over their words, which have a significant impact on
how the outside world views them.
Paul offers two principles for speaking that should be avoided when employing "corrupting" or
derogatory language. First, we must talk about important topics in constructive ways. Second, we
must speak in a manner that is appropriate for the circumstance. In one situation, something that
might be quite normal might be unpleasant or harsh in another. The objective is to be gracious to
people who are hearing our words. We should put the needs of others above our own sentiments
instead of prioritizing our own.
