CRJU 2105: CRIMINOLOGY Fifth Assignment 1. In the video clip ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA96Fba-WHk ) from The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon uses positive reinforcement strategies on Penny. What does she receive for displaying good behavior and for what behaviors? Next, Sheldon talks to Leonard by using negative reinforcement to do what? What does he do to Leonard as an example of a negative reinforcement strategy? Sheldon gives Penny chocolate as a positive reinforcement. Sheldon gives Penny chocolate when she apologizes for almost sitting in his seat. Also, when Sheldon says Penny has been around a lot more lately. Penny responds that she will be quiet. Then Penny takes her phone call into another room. Sheldon then talks when Lenard how he could use negative reinforcements on Penny to make her the perfect girlfriend by that night or in a shorter period than using positive reinforcements. Sheldon sprays Leonard in the face with water as an example of a negative reinforcement. 2. How does the video clip pertain to Aker’s social learning theory? How do people learn to participate in crime? This video pertains to Aker’s social learning theory because Sheldon uses positive reinforcements to get Penny to behave the way he wants her to behave. Sheldon in a way sees Penny's behavior as deviant so he thinks he can use chocolate to correct it. Sheldon then uses a negative reinforcement on Leanord by spraying him in the face with water when Leanord disagrees with him. People learn to participate in crime by witnessing the behavior in their social life around them. Social life means parents, teachers, friends, and social media.
