HDFS 2301 Longitudinal Evaluation Assignment After you have read the Gardner and Boellaard article answer the following questions. Each question is worth 5 points. 1. The participants were surveyed __1_ year/s after the experimental group completed the Connections program and then again after __4__ years. 2. Go to the Measure s section of the article, what were the specific objective outcomes that the researchers assessed? The study evaluated several specific objective outcomes, including whether the participants engaged in sexual activity before getting married, whether they had children prior to marriage, whether they were unfaithful to their partner, and whether they lived together before getting married. These factors were considered in assessing the overall relationship and marital histories of the participants. 3. Describe one of the established scales used to measure other variables in this study (Conflict Tactics Scale, Communication with partners, Divorce attitudes, Marriage attitudes, Attitudes towards counseling, Resisting sexual pressure, Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale, or FACES III). The Marriage Attitudes scale was used to evaluate attitudes towards marriage. The scale consisted of two questions, which had four answer options ranging from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree." The questions asked were "Do you think that marriage is a good and desirable thing?" and "Do you think that you will likely get married one day?" Possible scores ranged from 2 to 8, with lower scores indicating a more positive attitude towards marriage. At pretest, the reliability coefficient was 0.58, at posttest - 0.71, at 1- year follow-up - 0.73, and at 4-year follow-up - 0.84 4. Go to the Results and Discussions section, what did you find most interesting around the results of this study? (Minimum 100 words) After analyzing the data, I was taken aback to discover that a significant number of variables did not result in any substantial change. Specifically, when it came to the verbal aggression section, the Connections group did report a lower usage of verbal aggression, but this difference did not persist during the four-year follow-up period. Similarly, there was no significant difference in how often the participants used reasoning as a tactic to solve interpersonal conflict. Furthermore, communication with parents and attitudes and intentions also showed no difference, with both groups reporting the same level of communication with their parents. As discussed earlier, it appears that the material learned in the Connections program fades over time, leading to a diminishing impact. To improve the effectiveness of the program, I suggest that it should be taught annually for
HDFS 2301 Longitudinal Evaluation Assignment four years, with each year's progress evaluated to ensure that the knowledge and skills taught are retained and applied in the long term.
