1 Theorist Essay; Theory Of Work Adjustment & Ginzberg's Theory of Career Development SOSC225 - Career Development II: Theory Practice Laura Soldani, MAE, GCHMI, BSHRM Theory of Work adjustment is how to adjust to their work environment. This process is the idea that a worker has to change how they work due to changing workplace situations. If the worker or the work changes, the employee would need to adjust to the change. This could help or hurt the worker. Adapting to change is sometimes one of the most challenging things to do. You can accept the change and continue your success at work. You could make changes, but be reflective to agree with all changes. This could result in disciplinary actions or termination from employment. Then, you have the concept of not accepting change, resigning from the job, or quitting. These are all discussions on when adjusting to change at work. The theory of work adjustment describes the process further by introducing the concept of adjustment style and the distinctive characteristics of adjustment behavior. The idea is for the worker to be compensated for the work completed. When both have been completed, we will have a thriving workplace. The theory of work helps me as an Insurance agent because I perform tasks for my employer by writing insurance policies. 2
I am compensated for my work. The workspace is safe and comfortable for me to complete my duties. Understanding the theory of work adjustment will help me know in the future that change can happen with any job. You decide to make changes to better the company and progress in your employment. I know that with how the world is moving, change happens not just yearly but monthly or even daily. Ginzberg's model initially only referred to children as young adults. The theory is that you can develop your career in childhood or adolescence. Your Career development comes during the person's early 20s when you begin working or start work. This theory cannot be irreversible as it only helps for the future. The theory helps me with my future as I grew up in an insurance family where I was taught insurance guidelines and procedures at an early age. I started working as an Insurance representative at 18 years old. This helped me when going to school to get my insurance license. I believe this theory works for the lifetime of working in the workforce. Learning your job starts with goals set in your everyday life. When on time, take your time to learn and understand the task and be able to commit to achieving your work goals. Career development focuses on the individual looking to improve their situation. They are trying to achieve the goal of going above and beyond to stand out. Understanding the theory will only help you set goals for your career to become the best version of yourself. Being able to work and know where you want to focus in your future can help you make sound decisions for your future. 3
