2 Assignment 1: Personalizing the CASW Code of Ethics Part A: Summarize each of these values in your own words in about 75-100 words each. Code of Ethics Core Values (https://www.casw-acts.ca/, n.d.) The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) Code of Ethics outlines six core values that guide ethical conduct in social work. 1) Respect for the Inherent Dignity and Worth of Persons: Social workers uphold every individual's inherent worth and dignity, recognizing their unique identities and experiences. This value leads to respecting all people, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances, and actively advocating for their rights and well-being. 2) Pursuit of Social Justice: Social justice is central to social work ethics. Social workers are committed to addressing systemic injustices and disparities. They work to eliminate discrimination, oppression, and inequality, advocating for equitable access to resources, opportunities, and social services for all members of society. 3) Professional Integrity: Professional integrity requires social workers to act honestly, ethically, and transparently in their professional relationships and activities. They maintain the trust of clients and the public by adhering to ethical standards and principles, even in challenging situations. 4) Confidentiality in Professional Practice: Confidentiality is vital in social work. Social workers safeguard the privacy of their clients and respect their right to confidentiality. They only share information, when necessary,
3 with appropriate consent or when required by law, while ensuring that clients are informed about the limits of privacy. 5) Competence in Professional Practice: Social workers are committed to continuous professional development and competence. They strive to maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide effective and ethical services. Competence ensures that social workers can address the diverse needs of their clients. Competence ensures that they can provide the most excellent assistance to their clients. 6) Accountability to the Profession and the Public: Social workers are accountable to their profession and the public they serve. They acknowledge their responsibilities to uphold ethical standards, protect the welfare of clients, and maintain the reputation of the social work profession. Accountability involves recognizing and rectifying ethical violations and if we are participating in ethical decision-making processes or not.   Part B The three CASW values that have significant relevance in a person's life experiences are: "Respect for the Inherent Dignity and Worth of Persons," "Pursuit of Social Justice," and "Professional Integrity." These values shape one's life experiences and play a crucial role in influencing how someone will practice social work and who they will be. -        Respect for the Inherent Dignity and Worth of Persons:  Living in a diverse and multicultural community highlighted the importance of respecting individuals' dignity and worth despite their background, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
