1-2 Advertisement Selection Select four advertisements for analysis: Haagen-Dazs: Beard Bibs Panasonic: Your Inner Man Olay: #Makespaceforwomen Pantene: #SeeBeautyNotGender Explain why you selected your four advertisements to analyze. - I chose these advertisements for different reasons. Each one relates to me in some way. I chose the beard bibs advertisement due to the sheer fact it’s hilarious. I am unable to grow a beard (dang genetics), but I want one of these bibs! - The Panasonic ad was chosen for a simpler reason. I chose this because I am a man and the ad just appealed to me. - The Olay ad appealed to my dream of going to space. The ad was inspirational for multiple reasons. - And finally, I chose the Pantene ad because I have a sibling who is transgender. Explain how your advertisements relate to current events or to modern society. These ads are prime examples of social sciences at work. Each advertisement reflects the ways people socialize throughout history and current events. The beard bib ad reflects on the self- consciousness of humans regardless of their gender. Historically, men are raised with notion that they don’t get self-conscious, but this ad shows men that it is okay to feel that way. The Panasonic ad relates to modern society in much the same way. This ad encourages men to be themselves. Do not conform to social norms and express yourself the way you want regardless of gender. For the Olay commercial, the direct correlation with modern society is established through gender equality. In the days of past, this was a “man’s world.” Woman did not receive the same equality in multiple ways including careers. This ad presents the way society has evolved and regardless of your gender, you can accomplish anything. The Pantene commercial highlights the social complexities of being LGBTQ+ and shows viewers that social we are all the same. We as people have individual personalities and beliefs, but at the end of the day we are all human and there is beauty in all people.
