Family Life Education Family life educators have a very complex job. No family is the same, so the help and guidance that the family life educators provide has to change depending on who they are trying to help. Family life educators support all age groups whether you are a young adult who needs help with financial planning or the elderly that can't live independently anymore. Family life educators can be there for you throughout your life not just when your family is struggling. They have to assess each family member and the family as a whole to help build a strong family (Jonny Garibay, 2017). Most of the work that family life educators do is collaborative it's not them against the family. It's not them thinking that they know what is best for your family. It's them working directly with the family and helping them figure out what's working for each individual and what isn't while still guiding the family to their goals. For example, a couple could have a child that is 30 while their youngest child is only 6. A family life educator could help the parents make sure that their children have good relationships despite the age gap or even help the parents figure out how to be the best grandparents they can be while still raising a young child themselves (Content of Family Life Education, 2016). Family life educators don't always have to do home visits to be of service to you. They work to prevent problems and stay proactive. Family life education doesn’t revolve around one person or office either. Preventative family education can be things like a health clinic that offer parenting classes or online courses that help parents get college information for their teens. By providing those resources new parents can feel more confident in their ability to care for their new baby and parents can feel more comfortable with their teen going off to college. We must have more family education easily accessible (Examples of Family Education, 2023).
