Jinegwo Chizaram #7083397 HLSC 2P27 Seminar Exercise (1 of 5) (Adapted with permission from Dr. Pickett) Your task. After you have considered this issue of academic integrity in seminar, I would like you to do a bit of reflection. Some negative, and some positive. Task 1. Reflection on Academic Integrity In a brief list (suggest 5 points), please identify potential academic practices that you feel are most important with respect to the concept of “academic integrity”. For each point, briefly comment on why these practices are important to consider during your training. Point 1. Proper citation: It's crucial to cite sources correctly in order to avoid plagiarism and to give original writers credit. Point 2. Originality: It's essential to uphold academic integrity to make sure that one's work is original and not merely plagiarized from others. Point 3. Honesty: Maintaining academic integrity requires being honest in one's work and interactions. Point 4. Confidentiality: It's essential to uphold confidentiality in research in order to safeguard the rights and privacy of study subjects and to keep the academic community's trust. Point 5. Fairness: Being fair in the way one does their study, especially avoiding any bias or discrimination, is part of academic integrity.
Jinegwo Chizaram #7083397 Task 2. Reflection. In a brief paragraph (suggest 200 words), please provide a reflection on the following question, raised during your seminar. “What are two characteristics I want to be remembered for, personally and professionally, when it comes to academic integrity?” Personally, I hope to be remembered for always being truthful and open-minded in both my words and actions. I think it's critical to uphold the academic process' integrity and the values of truthfulness and justice in all of my work. I make it a point to do all my research, writing, and teaching with the utmost integrity, and I always try to be willing to defend the moral high ground in the face of obstacles or pressures to cheat or plagiarize. I want to leave a lasting impression on the professional world for my dedication to knowledge and pursuit of academic success. Integrity, in my opinion, is crucial in the academic environment because it ensures that research is conducted morally and that the results are trustworthy. I work hard to uphold high standards in my own work and to progress my area by cooperating with others and disseminating my research. I want to be known as someone who encourages and supports others in maintaining academic integrity as well. Additionally, I would work to set an example for and promote academic integrity in the larger academic community, inspiring people to act honourably and to be watchful in seeing and dealing with any cases of academic misconduct. Please submit your response to tasks 1 and 2 in a 1-2 page document.
