Module Four Question 1 Mark believes that people who create apps restricting or changing interaction with social media might be interested in his research. Think about the research you've collected so far. What are some potential applications for your research? In other words, what are some ways that your research could be used? By understanding how gender-based professional standards differ especially among tenured and tenure-track faculty, it would open the door for honest conversations about the ways in which gender-based discrimination is still present in institutions of higher learning even after the Lamphere vs Brown lawsuit. This research would also help to illustrate the progress that has been made on this topic over the last 50 years since Dr. Lamphere sued Brown University for sex-based discrimination. Another possible application would be to help illustrate the importance of programs like Affirmative Action and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives on college campuses by illustrating the impact they have already had for minority and marginalized groups in this setting. Module Four Question 2 On the previous page, you identified possible applications of your research. Research whether anyone has investigated or created those applications. Note your findings here. There seems to be at least some studies already done surrounding the attitudes of faculty toward Affirmative Action policies on college campuses. I am also finding several studies about the ways that gender-based discrimination is still very much an issue in academia, especially focused on lawsuits under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Pay Act of 1963 since the Lamphere vs Brown class action lawsuit in 1975. However, I don't see a lot of information about what is being done to correct this issue of gender-based discrimination in academia, especially since the overturning of Affirmative Action by the Supreme Court last year or the impact that this decision from the Supreme Court will have on minority and marginalized groups in this setting. Module Four Question 3 After reviewing your initial list of questions, are there any that you have yet to answer by searching credible sites and gathering C.R.A.P.P.O. approved sources along the way? Make a note of those questions here, as well as your plan for answering them. After narrowing my focus last week, most of the questions that I asked in module 2 are not relevant anymore. However, there is one that I have not been able to find an answer to yet that is still relevant and that is "How has the shift in the people who fill the social role of
professor changed the dynamic of professional behavior and standards for that role?". I have found information about things like the discrimination that has been faced by the minority and marginalized groups who are stepping into the role of professors but not how the actual shift has impacted the dynamic of the professional standards expected from professors. To answer this question, I would need to establish what the professional standards were 50 years ago for professors and the demographics of the profession, what the professional standards and demographics are now, and other possible explanations for any changes in those standards during that time period. Module Four Question 4 1. Edit the response to give your answer (YES or NO), and then briefly explain why. YES / NO, because... No, because it does not relate to his area of interest dealing with things like increased anxiety based on how users are interacting with social media. This resource deals more with things like social supports, which in theory could lead to differences in anxiety outcomes, it isn't directly related to his question and likely would not be very useful to answering his question. However, it may lead him to other resources that are more useful by helping him find useful keywords and sources from it. Module Four Question 5 2. Edit the response to give your answer (YES or NO), and then briefly explain why. YES / NO, because... No, because this resource deals with a different mental health outcome from his area of interest. He is looking more at things like anxiety and FOMO over narcissism or gender based differences. This resource would not be likely to be useful in answering his question however, it could help him to determine further areas to research in the future for the discussion portion of his study. Module Four Question 6 Write a research question for Mark. Please note, there is no one correct answer. What effect do apps that restrict time on social media have on teenager's mental health
