Yes, the support of non-Native Alaskans was an important factor leading to the settlement of the Alaskan Native land claims. The agreement of both Natives and non-Natives was important due to the fact that disagreements could cause violence and further strife in determining the land claims. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 2 Consider the following statement: ANCSA was a fair settlement for Alaska Natives . Is this conclusion consistent with the evidence presented in this learning block? Answer Yes or No, and then explain your choice in one or two sentences. Yes, ANCSA was a fair settlement for Alaska Natives. In return for giving up most of their land, ANSCA proved Alaskan Natives monetary payments. Natives were also given corporations that invested money and provided further gains for the Natives themselves. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 3 Consider the following statement: ANCSA led to economic benefits for white Alaskans as well as for Natives . Is this conclusion consistent with the evidence presented in this learning block? Answer Yes or No, and then explain your choice in one or two sentences. Yes, ANCSA led to economic benefits for both white Alaskans as well as Natives. The creation of the Alaska Permanent Fund provides a yearly dividend to every Alaskan, both Native and non-Native. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 4 For an American Literature course: What skills from this course would you use to develop a brief essay on the significance of Walt Whitman's "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," a poem written in the summer of 1865? I would create a strong thesis that chooses a few specific passages from the text to identify
the strong points. I could also utilize my research skills in order to compare the summer of 1865 to a recent summer to really emphasize my argument to readers by comparison and similarity. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 5 For a Sociology course: What skills from this course would you use to produce an annotated bibliography for your course research project? I would utilize the skills I have to research both primary and secondary sources. I would also ensure that I have incorporated reliable sources from SNHU's databases. I could also utilize the history I have learned in this class to identify historical events based during the bibliography that may have affected it. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 6 For a Business course: What skills from this course would you use to decide between two different investment proposals? I would utilize my background knowledge of grammar and complexity to determine which proposal is better. Are there in flaws in either proposal? Have they explored all avenues? Is one of the proposals contingent on something happening? Module 8 Short Responses – Question 7 How can history serve as a lens for the rest of the academic program you'll pursue at SNHU? Has this course changed the way you think about what you want to study? Why or why not? Please respond to this question in two to three sentences, using proper grammar. History can most definitely serve as a lens for the rest of my academic program here at SNHU. I have learned valuable skills such as researching, finding reliable sources, creating citations, and learning to view certain situations from multiple different lenses to determine how complex they truly are. I don't think this course has changed the way I will think about what I want to study. I am studying environmental sciences and while I can view the environment from different perspectives, I can't view science from a different perspective. I value things that can be proven and I am unsure how to view logistics and facts from different perspectives. Although, I could incorporate past environmental problems into present research. So, perhaps I do view environmental sciences in a different perspective.
