Hello everyone, Introduction of self One piece of legislation that impacts human services programs is the Keeping Children and and Families Safe Act of 2003. This piece of legislation prevents and protects children from abuse and neglect (Congress.gov). This Act ensures the safety of children, parents and families (Congress.gov). It helped revise the the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA). The three main changes that were adopted were better training and qualifications for the workers in this career field, ensures children are placed in safe environments when removed from home (background checks are conducted), and encourages links within services such as, metal health services, health services, child protective services, law enforcement, etc. (Gregg, 2003). This legislation relates to the community because it includes everyone (no discrimination) from children to adults. The goal is safety. Children should feel safe in their environment and adults should allow a safe place for children. It also is allowing help from multiple services (Gregg, 2003). This is beneficial because the children or families can get help for everything at one place instead of going through multiple different places to get the answers they need. Reference: Congress.gov.
