SOCW 6500-9 FIELD EXPERIENCE WEEK 1 DISCUSSION  Introduce yourself.  Name your agency, type of work they do, the clients they serve, and what you hope to do there as a social work intern.  Describe how your role as an intern aligns with the tasks associated with generalist social work practice. Hello everyone! My name is Jessical Sanford and I live in a small town called Como, Mississippi. Currently, I have been working for a non-profit organization for the past three years as a Community Support Specialist for various populations. The organization that I work for helps individuals that are seeking therapy, med management, as well as crisis and inpatient services. The intern site where I am practicing is called Panola Medical Behavioral Health Center, which is an inpatient and outpatient facility. I believe that working with Panola Medical I will be equipped with the knowledge and competency of facilitating groups with individuals that have been court-ordered to attend groups and groups with individuals who are inpatient for mental health. After helping with groups, I will have to do individual progress notes. I will also help with activities for the individuals that are inpatient and do research about additional resources that are available in different counties that could assist clients that are inpatients from different areas after they have been discharged. The generalist social work practice informs social workers about the foundational skills and knowledge needed to serve clients at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. After reviewing the tasks and roles, my role as an intern, I will be working with clients in the micro and mezzo level. After completing the Pre-Practicum Self-Test, I learned that I have strengths as well as weaknesses. In the years that I spent as a Community Support Specialist, I have been able to practice many of these skills, such as time management and the ability to identify needs and make plans to meet those needs. But a weakness is that I have been able to make thoughtful and ethical decisions under stressful conditions. I believe this is a skill that I will be able to learn with working at my internship under my supervisor.
