Yes the support of non-Native Alaskans was an important contributory factor towards the settlement of land claims as it provided more reasons and visibility on their situation which forces those in political positions to make a decision that was beneficial to all. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 2 Consider the following statement: ANCSA was a fair settlement for Alaska Natives . Is this conclusion consistent with the evidence presented in this learning block? Answer Yes or No, and then explain your choice in one or two sentences. ANCSA was more than fair as it allotted the Alaskan Natives 1/9th of the land in Alaska as well as financial compensation and financial stability through the corporations created for them. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 3 Consider the following statement: ANCSA led to economic benefits for white Alaskans as well as for Natives . Is this conclusion consistent with the evidence presented in this learning block? Answer Yes or No, and then explain your choice in one or two sentences. While ANCSA was designed to settle the claims to land by the Alaskan Natives, it benefited both sides as it gave the Alaskans money and designated land as well as allowed the non- natives to open the oil pipeline they wanted and helped the Alaskan economy as a result. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 4 For an American Literature course: What skills from this course would you use to develop a brief essay on the significance of Walt Whitman's "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," a poem written in the summer of 1865? To develop the essay, I will develop a thesis statement, based on research, which takes a position about the significance of the poem and whether it was positive or negative. The body
paragraphs would essentially be a series of arguments that support my thesis statement with the help of evidence from sources. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 5 For a Sociology course: What skills from this course would you use to produce an annotated bibliography for your course research project? To create an annotated bibliography, I would need to gather the sources to be used for the project and gather all necessary information on them. I would also need to apply a brief description of each source which is where the research would be valuable. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 6 For a Business course: What skills from this course would you use to decide between two different investment proposals? To decide between the two investment proposals, I would begin to research primary and secondary sources in order to find the differences in each as well as pros and cons. Once I do the research, I could create a thesis and utilize it to compare the two. Module 8 Short Responses – Question 7 How can history serve as a lens for the rest of the academic program you'll pursue at SNHU? Has this course changed the way you think about what you want to study? Why or why not? Please respond to this question in two to three sentences, using proper grammar. History can serve as a lens for other programs and courses as it has many different areas of study as well as many different ways to study those areas. I can utilize historical lenses to study the societal, economical and political causes and effects for situations studied throughout my other courses. This course has slightly shifted the way I think about what I want to study as it has helped me to be more analytical towards my overall program study.
