Feiyan Li HDFS2320 Subject: Help Us Inspire Children through Reading! Dear Volunteers, My name is Feiyan Li and I am contacting you on the behalf of our new Reading Partners Program! I am the volunteer coordinator of this program and I would like to thank you for your time and for all your efforts and knowledge that you are providing to the program. We all believe that improving the literacy skills of grade-school students in the greater Houston area shows that you care about these children’s futures as well as making your city a better place. All of us would like to thank you for making a difference in their lives. I would like to talk to you a little about the goal of our program. Reading Partners Program (RPP) was created to improve the reading experiences and literacy of many of the grade-school students in our community. This is important because we believe that improving the literacy of the students will improve their lives as well as improve the community. Our research has shown that better reading skills is fundamental for academic success and is also essential for future opportunities and creating more self- confidence in children. You will be taking part in reading activities with our students for at least 1 hour each week. This will help to give them more individual attention and support that they need to thrive. We will equip you with the necessary tools, strategies, and resources through our orientation sessions based in Downtown Houston. The skill you learn in these sessions along with your weekly participation in the Reading Partners program will not only improve the lives of these children, but will also leave a lasting legacy in our community.
