SCS 100 Module Five Activity 1
Introduction This paper will start by revising a research question. Then an explanation of how social science perspectives can be used to process information will be provided. Examples of how political perspectives can influence the view of content will be provided. Lastly, the research question’s impact on other individuals will be discussed. Revised Research Question What is the relationship between the spread of false information in journalism and its social-political impact on immigrants? Processing Information using Social Science The political lens is a social science perspective that can be used to process information relating to political views and power. Political perspectives can provide a wide range of implications for the processing of information ( Hanlon, 2021). For example, a liberal may view a photo of a refugee and think more money and benefits should be given to the person. However, a conservative may view the same photo and be concerned with the number of resources that are already given to the person. Understanding the political affiliation of a social media post or advertisement helps one to determine if they have the same view of a post or if it can be interpreted another way. There are limitless ways to interpret the same content. It is up to each individual to choose how to view the material. How the Research Question can Impact Others The answer to the proposed question has the potential to affect every viewer of a photo. Therefore, every group that sees a photo would be concerned with the answer to the question. Immigrants and people who follow politics will have the most interest in the answer. The political branch of the social science community would be most interested in the study to find the answer to the question. The long-term implications could last for generations. If the viewer of a given photo is provided the political affiliation of the person who took a photo and wrote the caption or story around it, the viewer will better understand the intended purpose of the photo. When the narrative of a photo is changed, by any political influence, it influences the viewer. When several different narratives are attached to the same photo, it is a problem. The photographer may have intended the photo to bring awareness to the living conditions in a foreign country. However, the new narrative is how there is a flood of illegal immigrants coming to take resources from the legal citizens of a country. 2
