The HSLS database consists of sixty- eight variables. A variable is a property of people or objects that takes on two or more values (Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero, 2018). For example, people can be classified into a number of socio-economic status categories, such as education or income. The two variables selected were Hours spent watching television or movies on typical school day and Hours spent playing video games on typical school day. As an illustration of the unit of analysis for the variables I have chosen, consider conducting individual interviews with adolescents who decide whether to watch television or play video games after school. Because I am intrigued by the number of hours that they devoted to engaging in said activity subsequent to a standard academic day. Description of each variable
