Module 2 SLP TUX105 Note-taking (Reflection 5.5, p. 97) My score: 26 Reading (Reflection 5.8, p. 103) My score: 24 Studying (Reflection 5.13, pp. 116-117) My score: 28 Which of the above study strategies have you not used in the past but plan to use in the future? I say study groups. I have been in study groups before, but it's always been very rare, and I usually participate in study groups when the class subjects involve a lot of memorizing. In these study groups I find or learn strategies for me to memorize things better in order to prepare myself for the test. I do always observe the most motivated and prepared students and approach them in order to learn from them. In which learning-strategy area did you score lowest? Did this surprise you? Explain why or why not. My scores are the lowest in the reading area. Being honest with myself it does not surprise me because my attention to detail will fluctuate whether I'm interested in the reading. Typically, I find myself skipping rare words that I do not understand unless it is a keyword for me to understand what the reading is about. I find it very uncomfortable to multitask and looking for definitions of words while I'm reading makes me multitask therefore, I wait till the end of the reading and then I search for the words that I didn't understand in a dictionary. Do you think the area in which you scored lowest may be contributing to your lowest course grade at this point in the term or a low grade you earned in the past? Explain Yes and no. I say yes because if I was to learn how to multitask and find the definition of those terms before finishing the reading it would better help me understand exactly what I am reading. Then again, I say no because everybody has different learning techniques. This brought me to the completion that maybe my problem was not multitasking but the fact that I didn't know how to organize myself. Of the eight strategies within the self-assessment listed in the area that you scored lowest, which one could you put into practice immediately to improve your performance in a course? Explain how you will implement the strategy and if it could improve your course outcome. Study groups. I will start implementing it by going into the discussions and looking for different students with different backgrounds, compiling their names in a list, messaging them through e-mail and seeing if they're interested in making a study group. If they agree to make a study group, we can discuss what we learn and our readings so we can better understand the material. I think this will greatly benefit the entire study group and he could potentially improve our performance on the course.
