2 Scenario: For this assignment, I thought about things that mattered the most to me. I will utilize the scenario that I created in my discussion post with some additives. Therefore, Vicky is a 63-year- old woman who is receiving treatment for small cell lung cancer. She was diagnosed in March and during the time she found out, she was still working. Due to her diagnosis, in order to receive treatment, she has had to stop working. Considering that she has lost her job, she has lost her healthcare and primary source of income. With all of the changes she has gone through, she recently fell back on payments for her finances which caused her to lose her primary means of transportation, her housing possibly, and she struggles to make money for basic needs expenses. Vicky needs to be at the hospital to receive treatment once a week. She has no family to transport her to and from the clinic and does not have the financial means to set aside to pay a taxi, uber, or lyft. Without her transportation, Vicky could fall ill and all the progression she has made with treatment is at risk. In addition, she needs stable housing and stable funds to support her needs. Vicky is an African American woman living in the lower income areas of the Bay Area, California. She has no immediate family besides her two adult children. She recently scouted for a roommate to help assist her with her housing cost. As stated prior, Vicky is of the older community considering her age. Considering her financial situation, she would also be considered to be a part of the lower income community as well. The agency that I may be working for that will support a community of individuals like Vicky, is the state and county agency Alameda County Human and Health Services. Outside of the social worker that Vicky may be assigned to through the hospital or clinic that care for her and provide her treatments, Alameda County would assign her a caseworker that would work closely with the hospital or clinic to get her the assistance she needs.
