Week 3 Assignment 1 Clark1 Walden University SOCW 6361 Evan Clark December 12, 2023
Week 3 Assignment 1 Clark2 Describe the social problem addressed in the policy. The Election Integrity Act of 2021 was created and developed as a result of the ramifications for Georgia's voting-related difficulties . The ACT's opening phrase refers to "revising elections and voting," which suggests to the reader that there have been problems in the past with the way elections have been conducted . The bill states that the general assembly concluded that voters in Georgia had little trust in the state's electoral system in both 2008 and 2020. The claims of voting suppression and fraud raised a lot of questions. Social workers should be concerned about issues such as these because our clients will have to vote on these policies as we push for changes in the community and in policy . Other Concerns and problems that may arise could be issues with suppression and voting fraud, and that shouldn't be a concern for any individuals in a community. Which population(s) is/are impacted by the problem Numerous people were touched by the voting reforms . There were drawbacks when certain counties outlawed voting on weekends when elections were close. Due to their employment obligations throughout the week, residents were able to cast ballots on the weekend (SB 202, 2021). Everyone understands how life can get busy and there seems to be no time during the week to fit anything extra in, these weekend hours made voting readily available to individuals who could not fit it in their schedule . Another way this affected people was that certain counties had access to funding, enabling them to improve their voting abilities and facilities.
Week 3 Assignment 1 Clark3 Summarize the excerpt from the policy that you identified as needing change . Voters who are registered should have the opportunity to drop off their votes . Particularly for voters who work throughout the day and are unable to visit the polls, it would streamline the procedure . They are able to complete and submit a certified ballot (SB 202, 2021 ). The present changes serve the interests of the Republican-controlled legislature while going against the will of the electorate. This will provide the Republican leadership the flexibility to make changes as it sees fit, which in some areas will have a negative effect on democratic voters (LDF, 2021). Changes should be made so that people have access to more polling places, particularly for those who reside in rural regions and must drive a long distance to vote. These individuals will also have less wait times in long lines , and this may help not discourage them from the process . I believe that overall, this would help the overall process of voting, and also change individuals views on voting as a whole. Overall, I believe that this process needs to be changed in a manner that will make things easier for individuals to make sure that they are able to cast their vote . Allowing voters to drop off their ballot will ensure voting numbers are up, and less people will have to miss due to work and other life obligations . If things were changed, especially for the rural communities, I believe we would see drastic changes in voter attendance. I am excited to see what happens with this matter in the future. I am very confident that things will change and individuals will have an easier time with the voting process. There is no harm in making things easier for individuals to have their voice heard. There will always be other sides of arguments on why these things are crooked, cheating, or fraudulent, but standing up for our rights as voters must be continued.
