Stat 285 - Assignment 2 1) Create a dotplot of the number of home runs hit by each player on the Giants during the 2001 season. Be sure to appropriately label the plot. 2) Calculate the mode, median and average of the number of homeruns hit by Giants’ players during the 2001 season. a) The mode is zero, the median is 6, and the average is 10.17 which would be rounded up to 11. 3) What is the ‘typical’ number of homeruns hit by Giants players during the 2001 season? Report a single value (use the dotplot in part (1) to provide guidance). a) The ‘typical’ number of homeruns a player would hit would be zero if based on the mode. Most players ran no home runs as shown by the dot plot. 4) Calculate the range, standard deviation and interquartile range of the number of homeruns hit by Giants’ players during the 2001 season. a) The range is 73, the standard deviation is 16.05 and the interquartile range is 5.5. 5) What would be an appropriate value that summarizes the usual amount of dispersion for the number of homeruns hit by Giants players during the 2001 season. Report a single value (use the dotplot in part (1) to provide guidance). a) An appropriate value that summarizes the dispersion would be the interquartile range value of 5.5. Most of the number of homeruns hit by a player is within the range of 0 to 15 home runs because 20 of the 23 dots are in that range as shown in the graph.
