Many people wonder about what they want to become when they transfer to a graduate school. Fortunately, I have already made the decision of what my future is going to be, and the major I am going to study. Computer Engineering is the career I have chosen to study once I transfer to a higher education level. There are many reasons why I like Computer Engineering, comfortable working conditions, my great interest in the computer world, and of course it also pays well. Computer Engineers "plan layout and installation of new system or modification of existing system. May set up and control analog or hybrid computer systems to solve scientific and engineering problems" ("Job Description"). They also "design increasingly complex computer chips that power new technology, develop the software that enables computers to perform applications and perform other tasks related to creating and maintaining computer hardware, software and systems"(Moncarz 1). Even though most of the jobs focus on the use of theory, their work is also related to "building prototypes". The reason why I took this course was because I felt like technology has definitely influenced this world on a larger scale than previously imagined. During the summer of my tenth grade year, I interned at Accenture, a consulting firm, where I repaired computers and resolved any software issues. At first I started opening and and exploring parts of retired dell laptops. As I became more proficient, I was able to help clients fix PC issues such as broken screens, replacing RAM, and transferring data from the hard drives to another computer. This internship inspired me to consider the Technology industry as a possible career. Taking into consideration the broad range of possible career paths in technology, I decided to major in Computer Science once I get to college.

In our recent negotiation, my partner Dave and I assumed the roles of Alan Hacker, a computer software developer, and Alan Hacker’s lawyer. Being the lawyer in the negotiation my objective was to avoid litigation with my client’s partner Stanley Star and to aid in the continuation of my client’s co-owned company HackerStar. In addition, I would assist Hacker in coming to an agreement that would be satisfying for him both personally and financially. I felt that Dave and I presented a reasonable argument on Hacker’s behalf and, since I was able to apply some of our class readings during the process, I was overall pleased with the outcome.
Therefore, most would infer that I pursue something related to my current field of occupation, right? This assumption is incorrect since I am determined to learn new topics, which led me to discover the unexpected: computer science. Versatility is a quality that few fields can offer, it was one of the reasons computer science attracted my interest. As I started my search for a college, I began to wonder what career field I would enter. I have always enjoyed building computers and coding, but while attending MATES (Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science), I also developed a passion for the Earth and the animals encompassed in its environment. After much research I arrived upon the field of Computer Engineering, a field that both satiates my thirst for technology and allows me to help the environment. Obtaining a degree in Computer Engineering would allow me to complete a multitude of such tasks. One academic major that I am especially interested in joining is Computer Science, a major that is shared throughout all three campus locations. Next year, I plan to major in Computer Engineering and begin a career helping make the world a better place through innovative technology. I realized my talents for math and sciences during freshman year of high school, and remember the exact moment I knew engineering was meant for me. While exploring the engineering shop at my vocational technical high school, the teacher showed my class a video of MIT students designing prosthetic limbs for amputees.
