Setting goals
Many people set goals for themselves. These goals are what motivate us to work hard in order to achieve success and drive our daily motivation. Goals such as going to University, having a high-paying career, getting married, purchasing the car of our dreams, or buying a property are what drive a person to succeed. However, we must remember to take small achievable steps and not set ourselves unrealistic goals in order to maintain a positive attitude and desire to accomplish the goal, even when we are not too feeling enthusiastic.

I chose motivation as my construct because I am very curious at what drives people and keeps them on track to reach goals, deadlines, and thing of this nature. Motivation of course is not something that can be measured, nor could it possibly measured accurately. First motivation can be defined in multiple ways to different people. Internal and external influences that fuel desire and energy in people to be continually involved and faithful to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal. Motivation results from the interaction of both conscious and unconscious factors such as the strength of desire
Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. (Cherry, 2016) Motivation plays the role in everyday lives. Ones motivation to do something differs from ones feels and the type of motivation towards the action that is being done. By studying motivation, we learn what gives our behavior its purpose, direction and sustainability. (Bond & McConkey, 2001, p. 6.3).
During the Three Good Things project, I found that I still experienced the normal up and downs that you do every day, but at night when I would sit and reflect on my three things it would help calm my racing mind allowing me to drift off to sleep. That was the first thing I noticed, the second thing I noticed was how even getting up in the morning and going to do the events that I really just did not want to do if I thought of the good things that happened the previous day or read what I wrote I was more positive towards going and doing the things that I did not want to do. For me this was good for a calming and motivation point of view, I felt that good things happened yesterday if I don’t go today I may miss more good things.
In “The Surprising Science of Motivation”, Dan Pink explained how the 21st century is requiring people to become more creative and think outside of the box. Allowing yourself to view all the possibilities instead of restricting solutions can provide more positive rewards. As a result, I find myself understanding the concept that external rewards like money are not the best way to motivate ourselves or others. Therefore, motivation lies within everyone by giving them the power to examine three elements of motivation which include autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Those that follow this motivation are not receiving cash reward but a reward of accomplishing their own task. In summary, I know understand that a person can be motivated by their
At times, we may question the source of our true motivation. Moreover, what may keep us going and guided in life? Goals play an important role in every aspect of our everyday lives. A goal is defined as “ the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result”. A goal may be as simple as buying some milk or as complex as buying stocks and shares. A clear, attainable goal can persuade the most unmotivated person.
There is an old saying that with enough motivation, a person can accomplish anything. This means that staying motivated is key for people to achieve their goals. Motivation is key for people to make their dreams become a reality. Without motivation people can’t accomplish the simplest tasks.
When staying motivated face it, it’s sometimes hard to do. I know when it comes to myself it’s hard to find something to be self-motivate about. It’s a good thing to be motivate about anything. Even if it’s something small. Motivation can and will bring the best out of a person. A big motivation for people have been family, friends, and goals they want to accomplish. Z. Hereford author of “Motivate Yourself - 5 Tips to Help You” gives tips on how to motivate yourself.
Sometimes it’s easier for someone else to motivate a person than for that person to motivate themselves, but I believe the theory discussed in the book “MIND OVER MOOD” that a person has to change the way they think in order to change how they feel. If they change their perspective on things their motivations will change too. Motivation to me is this - setting goals, hammering into your mind to finish what you’ve started, associating with motivated people and positive thinkers, and being persistent and patient.
I believe that motivation is a very temporary stated. We get motivated to do a single thing. Such as clean the yard of leaves in the fall. Or clear the rain gutters on the house. This is usually after my wife reminds me that it needs to be done again. We have large elm trees in the neighborhood and the rain gutters fill up a few times during the fall and early winter. We are motivated by an event for a short time. Motivation is a great thing it gets us moving to do what needs to be done.
# Unrealistic targets can put you off when you fail to reach them. When you feel disheartened, the motivation also wanes off. So set small achievable goals initially to help boost your confidence. Learn to appreciate your own efforts. This pride in your achievements
I feel motivation is like a spark to make a fire, without motivation anything to do can make less effective or less successful or it can bring to failure. Motivation
Fact: While perhaps not obvious on the surface, you might be surprised to learn that fear is often a motivator. Most people would have heard of the carrot or stick principle; move towards the carrot and away from the stick. Some people are motivated by the reward, the gain, while others might be more motivated by fear, discomfort, potential loss or pain. Gain and pain are both
“The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.”- Benjamin Mays. Life would be like an old film where everything is black and white, silent and has no interesting climax, if one has no specific dream to strive for. Dreams are the motivating factor for people to set goals. It all starts with an inspiration, to aspirations, to obstacles, which inevitably leads to success. Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do people have new year’s resolutions even though they have no plans on actually doing them?” Well, many people set targets but they never end up achieving them. Why is that? It is mainly because their goals were not SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely) enough. While others strive for their dreams even though they know that there is a small chance of reaching it. When we achieve our goals, it gives meaning to our life, helps us overcome future obstacles, and drives us to move forward, which leads to the future ‘you’.
Motivation is a very strong tool we can use to get further in life and to achieve our dreams and goals. Setting goals for ourselves is something that I consider to be very important, I believe in always pushing myself further and further in life, not only physically but mentally as well. We all have different things or tools we can use to motivate us towards our end goals. In order for us to stay motivated we have to have a goal and be driven towards achieving that goal.
In our day to day lives, we do many different activities all which take a toll sometimes without notice. How situations are handled at work, school, or home all have lasting effects on not only that particular person but everyone surrounding. By finding how to handle these situations, you will live a healthier life and so will others around you. Achieving a more positive take on our daily lives improves our own self-concept as well as creating a favorable ripple affecting those around us.
