Unfortunately, the ARC has been plagued with a high executive turnover, slow response to disastrous events, and mismanagement of donation funds. These problems now have the ARC facing another problem, fixing their credibility for the future.

Most recently, this organization has had a strong impact in the recovery of “Superstorm” Sandy and Hurricane Isaac, providing food and water, multiple shelters for people that have lost their homes and even counseling during such a devastating time (“Top 20 Accomplishments”).

The American Red Cross was initially founded in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1881 by a woman named Clara Barton and many of her colleagues. She went on to be in charge for the next twenty-three years. The American Red Cross is now governed by a Board of Governors which is in control of all operations within the American Red Cross. The leadership positions include the Chairman of the board and the president and Chief executive Officer. The Chairmen leads the Board of Governors in making the decisions and the President and CEO execute those decisions.

This organization is a very powerful and recognized thing in today’s world. Some people donate a pint of blood which can save three people’s lives. Clara Barton spent many years helping soldiers heal back to health but the American Red Cross provides healing for everyone in the United States even just by donating something little can save someone’s live or make their day
