Everyone becomes a part of something in high school that makes them who they are. Whether it’s a club, organization, group, or team, students in high school will most likely become involved in something they will remember forever. For me, it was becoming a member of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA has allowed me to become involved and learn more than I could have ever imagined. By becoming a member of this esteemed organization I was able to experience new ways to give service to my community and become involved in many other clubs. In addition, this organization has permitted me to travel many new places and hold multiple officer positions. All of this has taught me skills I am able to use for the rest of my life. Not only would my application be incomplete without FCCLA, but being a part of this organization has made me who I am today. When I first started high school I was shy, and never envisioned myself talking in front of a crowd. However, by being a part of an organization that promotes leadership, I was able to build up my confidence and bring out skills I did not know I had. Participating in this club has taught me to step out of my comfort zone and become the person I really am. I loved being able to express my thoughts and show others what I have to offer. FCCLA has taught me public speaking skills, time management, and how important giving service to the community is. For instance, with FCCLA acquired skills, I was able to
Future Business Leaders of America is a fast organization that has taught me a lot about leadership. I have held the office as secretary for our FBLA chapter for two years, and held the position as annual reporter the previous year. Myself and two other individuals created a community service project to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis; we competed at the state conference in Topeka, Kansas and received first place which qualified us to compete at the national level last summer in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an experience that I will never forget. I have also been a dedicated member of FFA for four years, I have held the position as Class vice president for three years, and I have been a member of National Honor Society for two years. National Honor Society is a service club that gives to the community and school. Service has taught me compassion and understanding. I trust that service is contagious. When people help others it can cause a chain reaction; one good deed leads to another. I enjoy helping others and realizing that I have made a positive impact on an individual’s
My leadership skills have greatly increased throughout my high school years. I started off as the history fair project group leader to the Development Director and speaker of my Philanthropic Board in Education class. I used to be the type of person who was shy and stage fright but I learned to face those fears and became the outgoing person I am today. My purpose was to be in charge of and interface with my classmates to create a fundraiser for a non-profit organization in our community. I had to communicate with each individual in order to bring the plan together, which wasn’t a piece of cake since not everyone interacts in the same manner. Although it was only a group of twenty-one students, I still faced challenges that I eventually conquered.
FCCLA has many opportunities to allow you to grow and take on responsibilities. We plan community service events which let us get out into the community and give back to people who support us all year round. Not only do I help with these events I donate to them as well. Another way to be a part of FCCLA is to put together and compete with a STAR Event. This means Students Taking Action with Recognition. The STAR Event I have been involved in for the past six years is Parliamentary Procedure. In this event we run a proper business meeting while using Robert’s Rules of Order with seven other people. This event has allowed me to bond with people on my team and expand my knowledge about Parliamentary Procedure. Qualifying for State Leadership Conference for the past five years has been an honor. One year I was
Being the baby of the family seems to automatically qualify me to be unaware of what the real world is all about and the responsibilities of being an adult. For years I take insults my older sister, Jessica who is now twenty-three, would tell me because what she said was nothing but the truth. Like Jessica, my father, Fernando, also nagged me about getting employed. Only my mother, Bertha, supported me in not getting a job and rather focus fully on academics. Anger began to accumulate within me until one day I simply could not support it anymore. Clearly to them I was a burden, which gave me that extra inner fire to call and make my first ever job interview happen. Even with a job, though, all the badgering would not seize.
Naomi Gerstel and Natalia Sarksian have shed new light on the subject of minority families and their differences to the traditional nuclear families in their essay, “The Color of Family Ties.” According to their work, those of White descent make up most of all nuclear families which can be described as a father, mother and children all living in one household. Gerstel and Sarkasian point out that it is not always the case that, “Black and Latino/a, especially Puerto Rican families are more disorganized than White families, and that their families ties are weaker,” as they are often thought of by those in politics or the media (62). In fact Gerstel and Sarkasian write, “Blacks and Latinos/as, are as likely as
Adopting a baby can be very difficult. There are long -- and sometimes embarrassing --probes into your life and home to judge your potential ability as a parent. There are also many different types of adoption to consider. You can adopt through an agency, chose private adoption, foreign adoptions, open adoptions, or independent adoptions. Don't worry -- we'll
As a leader, I have five core values that matter most to me; having a family, maintaining order(tranquility), meaningful work, growth, and truth. I strongly believe in each one of these components. Having a family is so important because they are a main support system. Family doesn’t have to be someone who is blood related. Family can be anyone who you feel means a lot to you and supports you. Maintaining order(tranquility) is important because in the work place, you need to have organization of some sort. With order, everything will simply fall into place. Meaningful work describes itself. If what you’re doing isn’t meaningful to you then why are you doing it? Growth is a key component because the point of doing something is hopefully to reach a goal that you have set for yourself. You should aim to keep growing to eventually reach your goals. Finally, truth is another very important value that I have. I believe truth can bring you happiness. If you are living your life with lies on your mind you will never be content. Altogether, these five components make up my list of most important personal values.
Mike had given a speech to Bodnar about the hardships that the men went through in the mills. He wondered if God had put him on his earth was to be worked in the furnaces. “Once I used to ask myself, Is this what the good God put me on earth for, to work my life away in Carnegie’s blast furnaces, to live and die in Braddock’s alleys? I couldn’t believe it. Now I know that God had nothing to do with it. Chance rules the world” (Bell, 197). Mike felt everyone should love the job they work in and shouldn’t feel as if they’re not appreciated. “I don’t mind work. But a man should be allowed to love his work and take pride in it” (Bell, 196).
Another research that focused on the role of family and attachment in relation to the process of identity development was conducted in 2008 by Dunkel.
Every person has their own family origin, and that’s what defines them. The family roots, name, and history are the main reasons for being. It is one of the most important information about a person. The family can help people to conclude what the type of person they are just by knowing their family background. In fact, genetics can also elaborate how families are a big part of every person. The way the person looks, their health, personality and many other are the genetics that people get from their families. The family can affect a person in many ways since they are a very significant in a people’s lives. From the day a person was born, until they die, the family is what they always have. Therefore, a person was defined by their family
Family is an interesting subject to discuss, as the “traditional” family structure has definitely changed, for example, in 2011 the U.S. Census Bureau, stated that 27.2% of American children under the age of 18 lived with one parent in 2007, in comparison to 1960, where around 9.1% of American children who lived in single-parent families in 1960 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2004). Reiss (1981) stated that family shares world views, and together the value and belief systems give the family a meaning in a social context. As human beings are social beings, family is important because, that is the nucleus in where people learn their social cues and behaviors. Family communication has an immediate impact on the self- esteem of adolescents and this is prevalent in many facets of adolescent life, specifically dating.
The family is the most common place for anger to erupt. It is also the place where the seeds of anger are sowed. When we live closely with others, when we are bonded to them, attached, dependent or vulnerable these individuals have the power to affect us deeply. In these relationships our expectations and demands greater.
Families vary from time to time and from one culture to the next. However, the family as a social institution exists in all cultures. In general, a family can be defined as any group of people who live together and are emotionally bonded, related by blood, marriage, or adoption. Furthermore, there are many variations in the family from one generation to the other, and this is what happened in Lebanon. Lebanon consisted of clans and tribes where all the relatives lived in the same shelter or home with their own united behaviors, beliefs, attitudes, and values. After that, modern life led to a massive change in our way of thought which extended to
Endeavoring to become a family health nurse has been a long and rock-strewn journey. Yet, like climbing a mountain with its downfalls and peaks, I have become more astute in managing circumstances and have developed a new understanding of what a family nurse embodies. The purpose of this paper will be to illuminate the experience of becoming a family-oriented nurse and how I utilized my knowledge from Family Health course to achieve this outcome. I will deliberate on an event that summarizes my experience, what I have discovered about myself, applying themes from works of literature, and the development of future goals. I will then conclude with a brief summary of my comic manifesto.
Many people in life have gone through a turning point in their life that either changed their own life or someone else's life. This is mine.
