Nowadays, due to the busy pace of life, people are always in a hurry. They do not have enough time even to do something as important as eating. As a result, some people, especially students, skip the first meal of the day. They start the day without breakfast because of getting up late, lacking time to prepare breakfast, not feeling hungry in the early morning, or being on diet. However, skipping breakfast is not good for students. It can increase the risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and poor academic performance. On the other hand, eating breakfast provides many benefits. Students should spend the time to eat breakfast because it fuels the brain,

Some students think that they can lose weight by skipping breakfast to cut calories. However, that is not good idea. According to Smith (2011), students who develop healthy breakfast habits early in life gain less weight than those who do not because breakfast skippers tend to overeat for lunch or dinner. Therefore, students can control and keep their weight by eating breakfast. On the other hand, obesity is a significant problem for children today. Skipping breakfast is one of the causes of obesity (European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2009). When students do not eat breakfast, they will feel hungrier later in the day. Therefore, they may not make healthy food choices at other meals and can eat whatever is convenient, such as fast food, less fruit, less vegetable, which cause obesity. Thus, eating breakfast may prevent obesity (Timlin; Pereira, 2007).
Third, spending time to eat a good breakfast can gives students the opportunity to take in essential nutrients that their bodies need, such as protein, carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, iron, plus additional vitamin and minerals. These nutrients are essential for healthy growth and development (Why is breakfast important for students, n.d). More meals are eaten; more vitamins and minerals are taken in (Fisher, 2014). "Breakfast foods tend to be very high in nutrients," Tanner-Blasiar says (cited in Smith, 2011). Students who skip breakfast are unlikely to make up their daily
Obesity can often be the consequence of living in a household that instill unhealthy eating habits. Schools can be a positive influence on teens early in life so that obese teens can lead into their adult lives with healthier habits. With these healthier habits, they may likely have more energy to become positive influences in others lives to be healthy and be able to do more. If schools can make such an impact on students’ lives, they should try, even if they needed to sacrifice extra money or instructional time. In 2007, there was a study that only one fifth of high school students had eaten fruits and vegetables at least five times a day in a week (Wexler, 2010). While it is unreasonable to force someone to eat these foods, if they are regularly offered as part of school lunches, students may eat them if they have finished the rest of their lunch and are hungry. Schools should be encouraged to even add fruits and vegetables to vending machines for healthier options.
Your brain needs fuel and energy so you can concentrate better at school. When you eat breakfast your brain is fully charged and you will be ready for school. However, most students don’t have time to eat breakfast because of the time school starts. When kids don’t eat they get tired a little faster. This kind of mixes in with the school times because you need time to eat breakfast, but if you don’t have time to eat breakfast schools should have little breakfast bars for students to eat to hold them before lunch so they can concentrate and do spectacular in
Cause 1: What causes the poor academic performance in children due to food insecurity is that they do not eat breakfast. The saying breakfast is the most important meal of the day is not just folk lore or a buzz phrase. The article by Sheila Terry and Kimberly Kerry, “Classroom Breakfast: Helping Maryland Students Make the Grade” published in the March 2000 issue of the Maryland State Department of Education, reports that “over a two-year period, classroom breakfast schools showed a 22% improvement in that score, [MSPAP test], compared to a 13% improvement for control schools
School lunches, curriculum focus, and daily activities have changed in elementary schools over the years. The nutritional value in school lunches often meet a bare minimum. Curriculum is focused strongly on idealistic future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; but often forget teaching basic healthy habits needed for lifelong health. Physical education is no longer required every single day. Obesity has become an epidemic and not just for adults, it is increasingly affecting children as well. Children spend a generous amount of time in the classroom. They spend more time in school than at home or anywhere else. Therefore, schools have a responsibility in preventing obesity in adolescents by teaching them healthy habits, serving them nutritious food, and providing them with adequate physical activity.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Who here didn’t have their breakfast this morning? I bet most of you did. I used to be one of those too until last month when I did a research on Biology and by chance, came across a fact about how important breakfast is. I believe that as soon as you heard the topic, you will assume that I am going to give you a life lesson as your parents do. “Breakfast is the most essential meal” is spoken by every mother, yet the reasons why we should eat breakfast have never been clarified more clearly and seriously. The following speech will highlight that breakfast is required for three main reasons; first, it helps improve our grades; second, it controls our balance diet; and more importantly; it can promote
First, your body needs energy everyday after you wake up. According to “Healthy Habits,” experts say breakfast is the most important meal of the day (Healthy Habits). Eating breakfast helps give kids the energy they need to think and learn. Experts say eating breakfast can help kids do better in school. Because of this, kids will get the energy they need to have all the fun they want
The importance of a healthy breakfast cannot be underestimated. A child who is undernourished in the morning will not be functional for her class until lunch. Also, schools can act as supporters of positive, healthy behaviors by offering nutritious breakfasts such as fruit and yogurt, versus the fast food breakfasts some adolescents might grab, if they get breakfast at all. Many school districts are beginning earlier and earlier in the day, and students are simply not hungry enough or do not get up early enough in the morning for breakfast, leaving them starving by 10am. Being able to grab breakfast in study hall can thus prevent many potential academic and nutritional problems.
I see poor nutrition and low birth weight affecting students in my classroom more and more. There are many programs within districts to try to help offset the problem of poor nutrition. Our school has voted to implement breakfast in the classroom this fall. This program will allow every student in my class to have access to free breakfast every day. I used to keep extra food on hand in my classroom for students who would inevitably complain about not having had breakfast. A study on the breakfast program found that “There is significant evidence of positive academic effects due to breakfast consumption” (Benefits, 2010). This program is one way that we can help our students to have the nourishment they need to be able to learn and
A common idea presented to everyone at an early age is the importance of breakfast and that skipping it can have dire
If the students get a nutritious meal then the students could function right and have a better state of mind throughout the whole day. Charles
THESIS STATEMENT: Breakfast is an essential part of your morning routine because it kickstarts your metabolism, helps you concentrate and perform better in class, and aids in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Eating breakfast helps you spread out your hunger and control your food intake throughout the day makes you the boss of how you eat the rest of the day.
As scholars are constantly reminded to eat a healthy portion of breakfast before testing, most scholars find themselves wondering, “Would eating breakfast really improve my performance?” According to many psychologists, consuming breakfast may have benefits in performance, but to an extent. However, some have also deduced that breakfasts may also harm the performance of scholars. Nonetheless, scholars who eat a healthy breakfast seem to have higher energy levels and ability than those who did not because of the nutrients consumed and absorbed by the body and mind. Consuming breakfasts would have beneficial effects on learning, to an extent; however, the different types of breakfasts could also have detrimental effects as well. The goal of this research is to determine not if breakfasts improve academic performance, but by how much? In addition, to the fact that there are possible “side effects” to this method of improvement, which leads to ask, are all breakfasts healthy? Scholars eating breakfast in order to improve performance may be possible for academic performance. However, if scholars believe and reason over the fact that eating breakfast does improve academic performance, then the effects of school behavior would be tested. Consuming a breakfast does provide nutrients for the body and mind. However, the nutrients provided could only benefit the body and mind to such a limit. Then, there is also the
The second part of the issue is that most college students looking to lose that weight rely on skipping breakfast as an easy way to diet.
My target area began as a focus on eating more in general. The food available at PSP was not always ideal, many times the food was either unhealthy or there simply weren’t enough options that I enjoyed. As a result, I noticed that my weight began to significantly decline and I desperately wanted to allay this problem. After completing my log sheets over three weeks, I came to the realization that the bulk of my missed meals came in the morning. I would sleep until eight to make sure that I received adequate sleep, however, I realized that in doing this; I was forgoing breakfast which was negatively affecting my health and my performance at Cornell. In fact, “research involving adults and children has indicated that breakfast might enhance memory, attention, the speed of processing information, reasoning, creativity, learning, and verbal abilities” (Consumer Reports). No matter a person’s age, breakfast is a vital part of their life.
