Breastfeeding Should Be Practiced More Frequently?

In her persuasive research essay, Alyssa Schow argues that breastfeeding should be practiced more frequently because of the benefits it has. It was a very interesting essay for me to read because it was so informative. Not only did Alyssa Schow present her viewpoint, but she accurately presents alternate points of view and responds to them. Although I wish that she added more personal commentary, the general point that got across was that breastfeeding has positive effects for both the child and the mother, and thus should be widely exercised. The author bases her argument based on the premise that breastfeeding is beneficial to the mother and the child’s physical and mental health. Throughout the essay, Schow gives examples of different health issues that can be improved through breastfeeding. Some are breast cancer, osteoporosis, connection between the mother and child, and child behavioural problems. Each of these instances are used to strengthen the argument that the benefits from breastfeeding are of utmost importance. One of the reasons why this essay was so informative to me and was effective in showing the author’s views is because she assumed that the reader didn’t know much about breastfeeding and responded to criticism. It went very in depth as to what the benefits are and what concerns people may have. However, in some instances, like when the author mentioned postpartum depression, having a previous knowledge of this term and its implications
