Daktronics got raw material such as LEDs from a limited number of supplier. Another material that sometimes it got from other companies were printed circuit boards.
Operations
Daktronics’ manufacturing operations included “component” manufacturing, such and “system” manufacturing. The company manufactured component such as printed circuit boards. However, due to capacity constraint, it multiplied its production capacity used outside resources and also outside providers when it was more cost effective.

Service
Daktronics did not only offer high quality products, but also provided service quality. This company tried to improve after sale service offerings as well, in both the operation and maintenance. Its paradigm had been changed for years ago from “selling products” to “serving markets”. In addition, its office in Shanghai provided 24 hours equipment monitoring for its customers who included this service in their contract.
Even though each of business unit had its own responsibility to sale its products and produce its business profit, but it is important to harmonized efforts and resources across the business units, for instance, conduct cross selling product and keep share its plants to increase manufacturing efficiency and reduce cost.
Support Activities
Organization (company infrastructure), Human Resources, Technology and Purchasing, supported the primary activities and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of those activities.
Core Competencies
Daktronics Inc. was a leading and well-known firm in the complex and growing electronic display industry. More than four decades since its founding, many sports stadium and arenas in all over the world had purchase its scoreboards. Furthermore, its electronic display systems were used in many markets.

Introduction: There are three sectors of the economy which are public, private and voluntary sector. I have chosen to do research on Royal mail they are they are the largest postal service up to date and has a long history of postal service dating back to the 18th century which is why I will do research on Royal Mail for the public sector along with John Lewis for the private sector.
There was a coordination and collaboration among all departments in the organization that resulted in faster accomplishment of tasks. Also, the goals of the organization were clear for the employees and they were always stressed by their managers.
Relating and supporting industries- there were large number of supporting industries capable of supplying compact sub-components with good technology.

Through GEARS, Solectron was able to organize the whole company into business units that focused on different aspects of the business ' Technology Solutions, Global Manufacturing, Global Services, and Global Materials Services. OEMs were able to outsource more of their functions to Solectron, which in turn allowed Solectron to become involved in customers’ product designs, parts procurement, assembling and testing.
