“ELLEN MOORE (A): LIVING AND WORKING IN KOREA” At first glance it looked like that the main problem about this case would be Korean’s team and their lack of qualification and expertize in this System Implementation (SI) project, therefore without taking drastic measures and improvements they are not going to be able finish it in time. But the more I read, the more I understood that lack of experience is just one small piece of problem set they had there. They had strong Cultural differences between Asia and Western thinking, in way of acting, communication differences, language barrier, used working hierarchy and most importantly different standards and values. * North Americans understanding for the role of a consultant differed vastly from Koreans. Communication with client team was blocked by cultural differences like team members needed to make appointments for seeing each other (time consuming). Impossible communication with customers in order to better understanding how system would better integrate with the customer’s requirements. Therefore one significant aspect was missing of implementation process, meaning clients’ customer needs which lead to bigger problems, such as Jacks presentation about marketing research and that lead to Andrew’s high tone conversation with Mr. Cho. That was the moment when everyone understood that team is not capable of working in those conditions so they looked for someone to blame. * Korean consultants lack of expertise in systems implementation. It means, that if planning was for 8 professionals then time for finishing the project was calculated out of this information, however if you need to train 5 people out of 8 then it take a lot more time than expected. Measures that should be done to get the project back on schedule could be: * Discussion with Jack and Ellen to smooth their relationships, because two co-leaders can’t work efficiently if they don’t communicate or respect each other, so Andrew should talk to them.
