The life and growth of Starwood Hotels and Resorts is unique. There are nine different characteristics of Starwood that make the hotel chain unique. Those characteristics are portrayed through their nine different brands, The St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, The Westin, The Le Meridien, W Hotels, Element, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, and IIT Sheraton. Starwood’s loyalty program, and their presence throughout the United States and overseas also sets them apart from the competition. As an agent of the company I am excited to educate my fellow colleagues about the hotel chain and their practices. After the introduction, I will specifically speak about their sustainability efforts such as: their current sustainability policy, their plans for a sustainable future, and address who if anyone the company reports to in order to achieve their sustainability goals. I will also touch on the company 's water/waste management practices, overall climate change strategies, and the company’s stage on the path to sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to compare the sustainability practices of two companies in the same industry. The two companies chosen for comparison are The Hershey Company and Coca-Cola Enterprises, both of which are in the consumer staples industry. These two corporations are ranked sixth and eighth, respectively, on the Newsweek Top Green Companies in the U.S 2015. They have taken pride in creating sustainable product designs, having environmentally sustainable processes and supply chain management.

According to Part A, Hilton Surfers Paradise Residences (HSPR) is recommended to pay more attention to the international tourists and develop a marketing strategy to improve their satisfaction in order to attract them to their hotel. At the same time, sustainability has already become the major challenge for the whole hospitality industry, therefore, energy saving and recycle system should be established in the future operation. The first recommendation is made due to competitive needs and the ideal spot of HSPR that may well be attractive to international tourists. The second is recommended due to legislation introduced by the Australia government who announced that the carbon tax will be introduced in 2012 in Australia and that hotels have to become "green". It may be that the two recommendations can be integrated , attracting international tourists and 'greening' the environment at the same time (Aaker et al, 2004), thereby saving HSPR money.

In fact, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide are acquisitions of Marriott International and are currently being incorporated. Additionally, Hotels in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the U.S. are currently under new development or renovation; although, 77% of Marriott International’s rooms were in North America at the end of 2015 (as can be seen in figure 2 on page 7). Also, the company expressed its concerns on environmental sustainability, and its goals to become more environmentally conscientious. Furthermore, technological improvements thru ought the many hotels, and reward’s program were discussed. Such as virtual reality room service, improved Wi-Fi, mobile check in, and Apple Pay. This message gave shareholders information on the company’s financial standing, and ultimately a guide on how the company plans to boost revenue by appealing to customer wants and needs.
