The Extra Challenge Life is full of challenges for the average person, and adding ADHD to that list just makes things even harder. ADHD affects people in every aspect of life. This disorder affects children’s school, family, and social life. Going to school everyday is a very different experience for a child with ADHD. School can be a very touchy subject for these children. The disorder makes them very hyperactive which can cause problems in class. The hyperactivity causes them to not be able to sit still in class, have dramatic out bursts, and get in trouble. Inattention is also something that affects the child in school. Children with ADHD tend to have very short attention spans causing them to miss details and be very unorganized. Even though ADHD may sound like a learning disability, it’s not considered one. Children with ADHD have a higher rate of having a learning disability though. ADHD causes children to have problems with math and reading due to the fact they have a very short attention span. ADHD has a few different effects on a child’s social life. In some cases ADHD can even ruin a child’s social life. ADHD makes it hard for kids to make friends and relate to others. A child with ADHD is usually a few years behind maturity wise, so they tend to try to make friends with younger children. The child may be hyperactive which can make a lot of kids not want to be around them,or they can be too shy to make friends. Some children with ADHD have success in small clubs or organizations where they can be their own person without lots of people around. A child with ADHD may also have trouble in other classes, such as, math class. Math does not always come easily; solving math problems can be especially difficult for a child with ADHD. Math requires sustained attention in order to memorize the steps and understand fully how to work the problem, which a child with ADHD lacks the attention process that he/she needs to understand math and results in the child with ADHD getting low grades or failing the class. A child with ADHD may have trouble subtracting large numbers; they rely on finger counting, and have difficult solving problems with more than one step (aboutkidshealth). A child with ADHD may have trouble solving problems, deciphering which method to use when trying to solve a problem, and have a hard time figuring out and deciphering word problems.

From the research, children with ADD/ADHD seem difficult to control and teach. It has been discovered that these children act different in home and school. At school, they have difficulties sitting still for a long time, blurting out, distracting others, and completing assignments in a timely manner. Joined with other children in the class, the teacher is unable to give them the one-on-one time that is needed to make sure everyone succeeds, academically. Most of the time, preschools children with ADD/ADHD fail their grade and do not learn the required information in education because of the common disorder that takes over their body and mind.
Children with ASD sometimes present aggressive behavior, self-injurious behavior and tantrums that impede their ability to learn in an educational environment (home school). Sometimes medicine is used in an effort to calm the child to the point where they are able to learn in an educational environment. It is recommended that behavior therapy be considered as the first course of action. Doctors recommended Risperdal for Marginee` inability to relax. Risperdal is also used for treatment of irritability in children with ASD. For example, children that struggle with aggression, melt downs (tantrums) and self- injury. Though Marginee` did not take any other medications, there are other medication available to children with autism. For example, Zyprexa, which is used for treatment of aggression and serious behavioral, Prozac and Zoloft, are used for treatment in depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. All medicines have to be monitored due to various side effects.

Adolescents can also experience new sets of problems due to physical and social maturity such as automobile accidents, traffic tickets, difficulty in romantic relationships, vocational problems, and substance use and abuse (Evans, Timmins, Sibley, White, Serpell, & Schultz, 2006). Although these problems usually do not occur until high school, these negative outcomes usually start in middle school (Evans, Timmins, Sibley, White, Serpell, & Schultz, 2006). Children and adolescents with symptoms of hyperactivity can have an effect on their academic functioning such as difficulty staying seated in the classroom; excessive fidgeting; greater touching of objects; and playing noisily (Raggi & Chronis, 2006). Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can sometimes be first noticed when a child starts school. Children have difficulty staying in their seats and controlling what they do or say. They have less control of their physical ability and can be inappropriate in certain conditions. Children easily lose focus during a lecture and are easily distracted, they may understand what is expected of them but have trouble following through with the commands. Dolgun, Savaser, and Yazgan (2013), states that ADHD causes children to be avoided in school and at home by their friends and family; they are excluded from group games and constantly reprimanded. Teachers may feel the need to talk to the parent about their child lack of attention in school and it will be up to the parent to contact the pediatrician for further evaluation.

Children with ADHD may be hyperactive and unable control their impulses. Or they may have trouble paying attention. These behaviors interfere with school and home life.
Low Self-Esteem-Many patients with ADHD may suffer from low self-esteem as a result of the disorder's symptoms. Nicole Crawford, author of the article "ADHD: A Women's Issue," points out that when women do not get their ADHD treated, they suffer from chronic low self-esteem. The low self-esteem can stem from problems in school, which can occur with all of the symptoms of ADHD. For example, with the inattention symptoms, the MayoClinic.com notes that patients have problems finishing work, make careless mistakes and are easily distracted. They may also have organizational problems and dislike schoolwork. With the impulsive and hyperactive symptoms, patients have problems staying still during class and may interrupt others. The problems in school can lead to failure in school, which may cause underachievement in patients. The underachievement can add to patients' low self-esteem.
