How can some people struggle when they have a degree from a quality institution, while others can be successful without a college degree or in a field unrelated to their degree? In my opinion, it’s because a college education doesn’t guarantee success. Success is up to many other factors that college often does not teach. I believe that certification tests would be a better replacement for the BA, because they would separate the students with the will and determination from those who are just coasting their way through their courses. Someone might be thinking if they drop out of college they’ll be working labor and dirty jobs, but in reality if that person looks for the right position I bet that they can get the job. It probably won’t be the career they intended to start upon, but over time that person can make the decision to go unto another job. Moreover that person would likely need some sort of degree if one is dealing with medicine, dentistry and law, but with the necessary experience that person may have under their belt it will be easier for them to make themselves more marketable in terms of experience. Additionally, they all share one thing in common: they require results, and in many cases, require years of hard work and study to achieve success. When looking at the bigger aspect having an education is different from a degree. An education can be formal, informal, self-directed, on the job training, professional licenses and certifications, or any other form of education. It’s easy to discount icons such as Michael Jackson, George Washington, Gandhi, Bill Gates, Lebron James and many others who did not go through a traditional four year degree program (College Dropouts). I can imagine the amount of hard work, training, practice, and study they had to go through to achieve their success and often equal or far exceed the amount of effort an average person puts into an average 4 year degree.
