Leprosy or Hansen’s disease can be treated by a multi-drug therapy, which consists of three drug prescriptions of Dapsone, Rifampicin, and Clofazimine, for at least 24 months. Dapsone is given in 100 mg tablets, Rifampicin 10 mg tablets, and 50mg tablets of Clofazimine. Dapsone acts as a mycobacterial bactericidal or bacteriostatic. Adverse reactions with dapsone are hemolysis, methemoglobinemia, and leukopenia. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or the drug itself. Nursing considerations for dapsone are treating a patient’s anemia complications first before letting the doctor prescribe, and observe for toxic epidermal necrolysis. Rifampicin will inhibit DNA dependent RNA polymerase, also making it
I can’t speak for the entire State of Texas but Travis County drug court is making a positive impact on offenders’ lives. Two judges who manage Travis County’s drug court are directing addicts into a court supervised treatment program instead of incarceration. Drug courts like the one in Travis County have successfully handled nonaggressive defendants with drug and alcohol addictions. People who complete drug court programs rarely fall back into substance abuse. Per four drug-court judges surveyed, about 10 percent of program graduates commit new crimes. That’s a recidivism rate of one-fifth that of traditional probation programs. Which shows drug courts can ease the strain on congested penitentiaries and save taxpayer money. A study done by
Adverse reactions to drugs are common and almost any drug can cause an adverse reaction.
You don 't come cross anaphylactic shock often, but you still have to be aware. Other severe adverse reactions that could include a fever and skin blistering; these usually occur within an hour of the medications being administered. Sometimes adverse reactions can develop over a few weeks, they may cause damage to the kidneys or liver. If adverse reactions are not treated they could be fatal. When individuals experience adverse reactions to medicines my workplace policy is to inform the GP and explaining in detail the adverse reactions, the staff member will then inform the individual/ team. GP advise and guidance will then determine if the medication is to be stopped. If the reactions are so serious then an ambulance should be called my responsibility is that I have duty to continue to observe the individual and monitor their vitals, speaking to them and looking at any changes, so as to ensure that the individual is not deteriorating. All adverse reactions and following advice given, must be recorded in full in the individual’s clinical note and referenced in their daily report also MAR’s chart. 4.
Narcotics have long been a plague of our society. Abused substances range from basement made concoctions of unknown origin and up to prescription medication abuse. Fentanyl, an opioid drug, is a recent addition to addicts’ portfolio and it is extremely dangerous.
Addiction- a primary, chronic, neurobiologic disease, with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. It is characterized by behaviors that include one or more of the following: impaired control over drug use, compulsive use, continued use despite harm, and craving. The difference between addiction and abuse is often times unclear. It’s a difficult call to make as a family member or a close friend that is dealing with a person like this in their life, but ultimately it is a call that only the addict can make for themselves. There are tons of different sources and tests and questions out there that can be done that can
America has a major problem with opioid addicts, and many facilities are helping the addicts by providing safer options to taking the drugs their bodies crave. Methadone clinics are places where people addicted to opioids can receive medicine-based therapy. Opioid use, drugs such as heroin, morphine, and prescribed painkillers, has increased in the US with all age groups and incomes. People become addicted to these drugs when they are prescribed, recreationally used with other addicts, or they are born addicted. Many health institutions are addressing this issue with an estimated 2.1 million people in the United States suffering from substance use disorders related to prescription opioid pain relievers in 2012 and an estimated 467,000 addicted
Putting in charge of developing a drug court it is dream come true because I have always eager to help people overcome any obstacles they deal with in the life. Being a drug addict is something very serious and that cause you to lose your dignity, money and loves ones because once you addicted to the drugs you will go the extreme miles to get that drug and it will become a necessity instead of a need for you. Since I have been putting in charge of developing a new drug court that can help someone, I must first discuss how I will develop that court and criteria but first before discussing the who is eligible, who is not eligible, and the elements of how the drug court will consist of but first I have to explain what is a drug court and provide
When facing criminal drug charges, there is nothing more indispensable than a criminal drug attorney. The legal consequences in these types of criminal cases can be grave. A drugs attorney is absolutely necessary to help a defendant through the complex legal landscape that is to follow. It is important to note, though, that not all attorneys are the same and that it is important to be careful when choosing a lawyer. There are certain key factors to look for in a drug attorney search that any competent criminal drug attorney will have.
The purpose of this briefing memo is to provide recommendations to Council of City ABC on certain aspects it may or may not include in its zoning provisions with regard to methadone clinics and dispensaries. In the following sections I will provide my input on the provisions laid out by council.
For my Civic Engagement project, I plan on studying and learning more about Drug Courts. After reading about drug courts in the state courts chapter and after watching the video, A Better Deal, about the nations first drug court, I immediately got hooked on the topic and wanted to learn more about the court in depth. Before we go more in depth about the topic, let’s take a step back and ask, “What is drug court and what is the purpose for it?” Drug court is a specialized court, meaning it is it’s own court. Drug court is a diversionary program that offers offenders a second chance to correct their drug problems and also offers an alternative route rather than going to prison for breaking the law due to their drug abuse. The goal for drug courts
What does it take to be a pharmacist? Pharmacy involves more than just handing out drugs, otherwise anyone could do it. “A pharmacist is a health professional who follows instruction from physicians regarding the amount of education to distribute” (“Pharmacy requirements”). The pharmacy profession requires a lot of education, demands patience and attentive work, provides good pay, and offers a satisfying job.

Digoxin toxicity. Digoxin has a narrow therapeutic index and chronic toxicity is more likely in the elderly and those with renal impairment. Since Mr Buchanan is 75 years old, he may already have some form of renal impairment and therefore is at a higher risk of developing toxic serums levels if continually taking Digoxin (Australian Medicines Handbook, 2016 and Nickson, 2014). Digoxin toxicity can be caused by prolonged use, an overdose or a general increase in the current dose (Australian Medicines Handbook, 2016). If Mr Buchanan is taking digoxin for an extended amount of time, he may build up a tolerance to its effects due to being consistently exposed to the drug (Australian Medicines Handbook, 2016). This is significant risk
There are many different methods of dispersing and accumulating data from subject self-reports, but for the purpose of this research proposal we have elected to adopt a method used in relatively recent study published by the Journal of Drug Issues entitled: “Substance Use, Drug Treatment, and Crime: An Examination of Intra-Individual Variation in a Drug Court Population”.
