As information and knowledge are disseminated throughout a team, the intellectual capacity of both the team and the organization is increased. Such a strategy is sometimes referred to as pyramiding or pyramid learning, meaning that knowledge is spread from one team member to another before eventually spreading throughout the entire team.

Individual can be either intrinsic or extrinsic motivated, however, knowing if your team members like to be motivated by rewards or by activities reflects back in a more productive and successful team. A lack of motivation in any team member can have a negative effect, not only reducing the team 's effectiveness as a whole but also possibly leading to the demotivation of others.

Throughout this course, I have learned a lot about leadership from the different leadership theories. One of these leadership theories is the behavioral approach. There are a few things I learned about leadership in regards to the behavioral approach. For example, I learned from this theory that there is not one universal style of leadership that fits every situation. In the past, I would think every leader should use the team management style. Instead, depending on the situation, a leader might need to use authority compliance or use country-club style.

The process of decision making can be easily understood as selecting one course of action over other courses actions available. There are also steps that are involved in making decisions. These steps include: (1) pinpointing the problem; (2) identifying the cause; (3) setting objectives; (4) formulating alternative courses of action; (5) evaluating alternatives against organizational objectives; (6) choosing the best course of action; and (7) implementing and evaluating the decision (Holzer and Schwester 2011). The contents and assignment in this course has helped me understand the various theories of leadership and how different leadership styles can have a negative or positive effect on followers and organizations. The leadership theories helped me understand the concept of leadership better because it educates me on the different leadership options that are available. Leadership and followership is not based on specific characteristics. Leaders must draw from things and approaches to find the right style. A follower’s attitude determines the way a leader leads. According to Johnson (2011) “Being a good follower means ensuring your boss is supported, but only if he is making optimum decisions”.
I learned there were many theories on leadership. My view of leadership had many similarities to the Great Man theory view on leadership. The theory basically states that leaders are only born. I also was taught there was five other theories of leadership. There is Trait theory, which is saying only people with certain traits can be a leader. Behavioral theory is similar to Trait theory, but it states that leaders only are people who exhibit specific behaviors. Situational Contingency Theory claims that leaders are only people who meet the needs of specific leadership in a specific situation. There is also Influence theory, which states leaders are people who can only influence people to an idea or desired task. Lastly, is the Reciprocal Leadership theory, this theory claims that everybody is a leader and works together as a leadership group. Learning about these theories helped changed my view on leadership.
