The three management skills that mentioned by Robert Katz are conceptual, interpersonal and technical skills. In order to be a successful manager, containing these three skills will give him a strong impact to his career and also the success of the organization.
Conceptual skills are skills that utilize the ability of a human to form concepts. Such skills include thinking creatively, formulating abstractions, analyzing complex situations, and solving problems. A manager have such ability can understand the organization as a whole and develop creative strategies. He is also able to examine a complex issue and formulate specific, effective courses of action.

Besides that, it can also be obtained from schooling such as a college degree. Indeed, many business schools throughout the country see their role as providing graduates with the technical skills necessary for them to be successful on the job.
Examples of technical skills are writing computer game programs, completing the draft design of a building, analyzing marketing statistics for an organization, writing legal documents, or drafting a production line for an automobile.
The importance of these three skills varies according to different level of manager location in the organization. For the top managers, conceptual skills are critical because the plans, policies, and decisions developed at this level require the ability to understand how a change in one activity will affect changes in other activities.
On the other hand, technical skills become least important at the top level of management hierarchy. Technical skills are mostly needed at the lower levels of management because first-line managers are closer to the production process, where technical expertise is in greatest demand.
Interpersonal skills are equally necessary at all level of the management hierarchy. A mutually clear and successful communication within the organization is extremely important. It is the role responsibility for a successful manager to perform an excellent interpersonal skill and to develop a good communication atmosphere.
