Within travel and tourism inbound and domestic tourism are frequently changing, there are many internal and external factors which have a major impact and contribute to these changes. In this assignment I am going to analyse 3 internal and 3 external factors which affect the travel and tourism industry.

Over the last 60 years, tourism has benefited from continuous growth and diversification, becoming one of the largest as well as the fastest growing world’s economic sectors. Tourism becomes one of the major categories of global trade in services. Travel started to develop as a business many years ago. This industry began, when the ancient and rich inhabitants of Phoenicia, Rome, Egypt, Greece, and China; out of curiosity and a sense of adventure, about their surroundings, began to travel. Today tourism is a billionaire industry that serves the needs and wants of millions of domestic and international tourists. There is no doubt, that capitalism has played an active role in the developing of this powerful enterprise. However, when this business began, only the rich populations were able to enjoy their summers on the coasts and countryside. As these powerful people continue traveling, their servants have to cater for their patrons travel and accommodations needs and wants. As the Roman Empire decline, this business endured a backlash. In Central America the Incas had to travel to trade with the different racial groups, which were part of their empires to trade and collect taxes from their peasants.

The tourism industry is one of the largest growing industries in the world and has allowed people to travel the world more freely. The American tourism industry has slowly been recovering since the 9/11 terrorist attacks which really hit the industry hard and people were afraid to visit America. Donald Trump was elected the 44th president of the United States of America in November 2016 ever since then the tourism industry has started to slowly decline. Now The American tourism industry makes up around about 20% of the world’s tourism industry. The tourism industry took a big hit in January and in March of 2017 when Donald Trump introduced a travel ban to seven Middle-eastern countries which outraged the world and the American public. The aim of this paper is to analyse the extent to which the election of Trump has affected America’s inbound tourism.

Tourism plays a vital role in economic development in most countries around the world. The industry has not only direct economic impact, but also significant indirect and influential impacts. There is agreement among experts that the travel and tourism sector is the fastest growing of global economy. According to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, international tourism receipts surpass US$ 1 trillion in 2011, growing about 3.8%up from 2010 (WTO, 2012).

The Italian tourism business in the modern times is appealing to those internationally and nationally within the country. Before, during, and after the Fascism reign was when the policies that organizations of today were being created and trying to be put in use for the betterment of the economy and industry at the times. The nation’s tourist structures functioned better and helped bring the economy out of their hard times caused by the mistakes of Fascism. Italy had remained a poor country during Fascism, destroying the progress after the First World War and eventually coming out of it after Fascism with the knowledge of the need for international currency in the economy. The economy and the people of Italy all were affected by the need and growth of tourism during the rise and fall of the Fascist regime.

From an environmental perspective, it is apparent that the world is starting to realise that increases in tourism are having a negative impact on the environment. This is due to increases in energy consumption, which in turn heightens the effects of global warming (Neto, 2002). There are many controls that governments are trying to put into place, such as flight rationing (Liverpool Business School, 2009). However, it can be argued that these have not really begun to have a significant effect on tourism, as they are still insufficient to dampen demand. It may become a problem in future years, as the number of controls is likely to increase. Perhaps the largest environmental factor would be natural disasters, like Hurricane Katrina (Cashell, 2005) and the tsunami that hit Asia in December 2004 (Birkland, 2006). These will impact negatively on people’s confidence in visiting places that have been hit severely by such disasters.

High income households have not changed their choice of holiday destination. Instead, they have reduced the duration of their holiday. All other factors have remained constant as households are unwilling to compromise on the features of their holiday. Their demand for overseas travel is income inelastic. The analysis also showed the possibility of overseas travel being a Veblen good for the upper end of the high income group, where it is used as a status symbol to show that the household is unaffected by the recession.

Tourism is one of the most exciting and progressive industries in the world. Tourism today is a leisure activity of the masses. People travel to international destinations to break the regular monotony of life. They are mainly attracted by either the scenic beauty of its nature or by fascinating leisure, sports and adventure activities offered by the destination. However, every destination has some internal strengths and weaknesses that either enhance its capacity to attract foreign visitors or diminish it. Similarly the external environment can create various opportunities or exposed to threats as well.

More so countries make huge investments in hotels and other luxurious resorts in an effort to attract more tourist. Additionally, the growth of a country can be equated to the level of how their tourism is. In as much as it is a revitalizing entity in development, tourism has its challenges. One of the major challenges faced by the tourism industry is terrorism. This paper will discuss in detail the impact of terrorism on the United States tourism industry.
